Remember seeing them on Rock Concert, or some other late TV of the time.  Chaka was pretty bump and grindin' as I remember.

Tell me something good, why can't we be friends, let 'em in.  You could almost construct a dialogue with the song titles so far.

martin luther, phil & don, paul & linda.  I don't hate this as much as some do, but it's pretty lightweight. Give me Billy Paul's cover any day.

I didn't know Uncle Ernie was anti-gin. He was pretty much smashed most of the time.

What was the show that was on NBC after the Carson show on Friday nights? (I recall seeing the Starland Vocal Band a lot on there circa '76. Also Janis Ian the year previous.) I seem to remember seeing them on there.

Do you mean Don Kirschner's show?  It was on Kirschner that I first saw Rush.

He spent too much time at Tommy's Holiday Camp.

ABC had "In Concert", which was on opposite Carson on Friday nite.
NBC had "Midnight Special" which came on after Carson on Friday (and was much more pop-hit-oriented).
"Don Kirschner's Rock Concert" was syndicated --and Kirschner was wickedly parodied by Paul Shaffer on SNL.

I don't know if Kirschner had anything to do with this or not. It definitely wasn't Don Kirschner's Rock Concert--that was ABC. This was done on a soundstage with a fairly small audience (under 75, certainly), and they had big neon letters that they'd use to spell out the name of the given band behind them on the stage. I think Don Kirschner's thing filmed actual concerts in real venues.

ETA: Mike got it--Midnight Special was the one I was thinking of. Monday morning brainfade.
Let's get right to it.
