OK then

starting the week off with late '80s again.  After 3 excellent sets this morning, this has to be a comedown unless a major breakout is in the offing.

Hasn't happened yet, although the Waters tune was at least a good start to the set. And I'm cool with Devil's Radio, although I know some are tiring (tired?) of it.

Oh, and US is down 2-0 to the Czechs at halftime. This has been your Ten at Ten World Cup update.
Let's get right to it.

Yeesh, "Hourglass", surely a prime '87 Katrina.

well, not a breakout (I don't think) but a welcome rarity:Sting's ode to Mr. Crisp,  "Englishman in NY", BOS. Dave getting in the Pride Month spirit early.

Which reminds: TWO theme sets next week, Pride and First Day o'Summer.

WOS to another '87 Katrina: "Dirty Water", Rock & Hyde (?).

And I don't share Dave's love of Tammy Faye. Too much mascara is not a reason to make someone a Gay Icon, much less rehab their image.

I imagine this has been discussed, but that's gotta be Ian Anderson on flute there, eh?

It's a guy named Mel Thorpe, per a Google search. But many people thought the same thing.

Now I like Chris Isaak, really. But this cover of "Heart Full of Soul" was unnecessary and dull.

Dang, he's sure that the Tull sound down.  Though maybe it's just a question of over-blowing everything.  Not the sweetest flute tone, for sure.

HM for Chris Isaak.  A good version of HFoS.

another VHM for World Party, but this set's been quite a snoozer overall.

The skinny on this is that L&R were deliberately trying to do a send up of Tull, and surprisingly wound with one of their biggest hits.  Kind of like what happened to Blur with "Song 2".

FWIW playing hooky to watch the World Cup was a waste of my morning.  A very listless US squad down 3-0 before I split.  If the US is anywhere near as good as they're supposed to be, then the Czechs are are just awesome, 'cause they disposed of the US with relative ease.  Hopefully they pull it together for the Italians on Saturday, or else this will be like '98 all over again.
