Conan says NO:

http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-conan-obrien-story,0,1066145.story

I admit I don't follow these things too closely, but why does Jay Leno seem to have NBC by the 'nads?   Last time I checked, the dude was pretty bad.  Not funny, smarmy to the extreme, he used to be a horrible interviewer, just looking for places to drop his one-liners.

I agree, but Middle America loves Leno; that's why he got the Tonight Show instead of Letterman. NBC lost Dave over that and they'll probably lose Conan too.

Conan's statement that appears in the NYTimes was pretty amusing while still taking a firm stand against moving his show. As he should.

NBC's trying to recover from what was a bad decision in the first place (giving Leno a primetime show) and make everyone happy, but I don't see that happening. Frankly I think they should give Leno his walking papers, but it'll probably be Conan that takes the fall here. Everyone keeps mentioning Fox, but any chance ABC will muster up a viable offer for Conan? How are Jimmy Kimmel's ratings these days?
Let's get right to it.

Kimmel does OK for ABC (young male demo) and is much cheaper. FOX has the most to gain by wooing Conan with a fat offer. My understanding is if NBC fires Conan they owe him, like, $50M; not clear what he gets if he quits.

Tim Goodman's take on the Conan thing:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/tgoodman/detail?entry_id=55113

FOX would have to be insane not to swoop in immediately and offer Conan the moon & stars.  Which reminds me that Letterman will be retiring in a few years, and who are they gonna replace *him* with? Craig Ferguson?

Yikes, if I wasn't already starting to feel a little long in the tooth, that certainly puts me over the edge. Granted he's been at it for, what, about 27 or 28 years now, so he probably is having those thoughts, but I just don't like thinking about it.

No surprise but...

John and Elizabeth Edwards announce they are legally separating:

http://abcnews.go.com/2020/John_Edwards_Scandal/john-edwards-elizabeth-edwards-legally-separated-abc-news/story?id=9665906

...on the same day that Apple announces the iPad and President O. delivers the State of the Union. A bonus to Edwards' PR flack on his timing--could not have been better (unless Michael Jackson dies again)!

Kind of ironic, considering they're "the American Rolling Stones".  But they haven't ruled out hiring a woman -- Alicat, get yer audition tape ready!

I wasn't even aware of this story until Olbermann alluded to it last nite. John Mayer apologizes for racist comments; also told Playboy that Jessica Simpson was like "sexual napalm" (in a good way, I guess).
