BOS3 Rhymin' Simon, "Was a Sunny Day"

Her name was Lorelei, she was his only girl
She called him "Speedo" but his christian name was Mister Earl

Love that verse.
This song is rubbing me the wrong way today. His faux Jamaican seems mocking to me.

EVERYTHING old is politically incorrect thru a 21st century prism.

All in the Family --> H&O, "She's Gone" Carbon AND monoxide.
Wow, I never would have guessed this song was that old. Very sorry to have missed the first three, especially The Real Me.

It wasn't a hit til '76, after Sara Smile. It originally charted in '74 but only got to #60, then they rereleased it after SS hit and it went to #7. Can you picture a record company doing that now? (Taking a second chance on a 3-year old song that died on the charts two years previously.)
Thanks for the background -- that explains it. And yeah, that song would be dead as a doornail.

I was looking at the lyrics just now, and it was a bit stunning how few of them I actually knew. He uses some pretty odd pronunciation to make it more challenging, and what he's saying doesn't make a lot of obvious sense.

An excellent set, including some very nicely played segues. Only possible negative is that she missed an opportunity to give a send-off to Dan Hicks, who passed nearly three weeks ago now. Last Train to Hicksville came out in '73, she could have played Payday Blues or 'Long Come a Viper. Not to take away from a great set, but I do think he deserved recognition.
Let's get right to it.

9. Al Green - Call Me (Come Back Home)

No. 9 appears to be a bust-out.

Played once by Dave in 2007 (in a ''70s Vertical Tasting, apparently)

But as you pointed out last week, any '70s set without bustouts is a serious missed opportunity.
