Just heard a promo, which hinted that it was the year Nixon said "I am not a crook" and Bruce released his debut album. That sez '73 to me.

It wasn't a hit til '76, after Sara Smile. It originally charted in '74 but only got to #60, then they rereleased it after SS hit and it went to #7. Can you picture a record company doing that now? (Taking a second chance on a 3-year old song that died on the charts two years previously.)
