Just heard a promo, which hinted that it was the year Nixon said "I am not a crook" and Bruce released his debut album. That sez '73 to me.
-
The 'oo, lookin' for the real them.
-
Great TOTHK. The Who at the height of their artistry.
-
BOS1 Sly. Yes, we want you to stay.

Wow, I never would have guessed this song was that old. Very sorry to have missed the first three, especially The Real Me.
-
BOS for TOP as is my SOP, with according to my bass-playing friend, "their ode to constipation".
-
TOP with a '73 FF. But I'll let it slide.
-
Partridge Family (Keith has a girlfriend) --> Brooooce, "Growin' Up". BOS2.

BOS3 Rhymin' Simon, "Was a Sunny Day"

BOS3 Rhymin' Simon, "Was a Sunny Day"
Her name was Lorelei, she was his only girl
She called him "Speedo" but his christian name was Mister Earl
Love that verse.

This song is rubbing me the wrong way today. His faux Jamaican seems mocking to me.

It wasn't a hit til '76, after Sara Smile. It originally charted in '74 but only got to #60, then they rereleased it after SS hit and it went to #7. Can you picture a record company doing that now? (Taking a second chance on a 3-year old song that died on the charts two years previously.)

Columbo samples wine --> BOS4 EJ "Elderberry Wine"

EVERYTHING old is politically incorrect thru a 21st century prism.

Multiplication Rock --> LedZep "The Ocean". BOS5.

Thanks for the background -- that explains it. And yeah, that song would be dead as a doornail.

Multiplication Rock --> LedZep. BOS5.
AM rocks hard! BOS for the week.
-
"Soylent Green is people!" --> Rev Al "Call Me". BOS6.

"I am not a crook!" --> Hawaiian Punch --> "Jean Genie", pulling the waiters.

I was looking at the lyrics just now, and it was a bit stunning how few of them I actually knew. He uses some pretty odd pronunciation to make it more challenging, and what he's saying doesn't make a lot of obvious sense.

An excellent set, including some very nicely played segues. Only possible negative is that she missed an opportunity to give a send-off to Dan Hicks, who passed nearly three weeks ago now. Last Train to Hicksville came out in '73, she could have played Payday Blues or 'Long Come a Viper. Not to take away from a great set, but I do think he deserved recognition.

9. Al Green - Call Me (Come Back Home)
No. 9 appears to be a bust-out.
Played once by Dave in 2007 (in a ''70s Vertical Tasting, apparently)
But as you pointed out last week, any '70s set without bustouts is a serious missed opportunity.

these songs make me think of working in the PO, night shift down at Rincon Annex.
