And starting with Tunnel of Love. Wonder if we'll hear anything from The River? And cue the John Lennon clip.
Let's get right to it.

I predict your predictions come true.  Early BOS for "Tunnel of Love", HM to Mr Knopfler's nod to Rodgers & Hammerstein..

You mean the one of Howard Cosell announcing his murder on MNF?

P.S.  What distinguishes a "murder" from an "assassination"?  Does the latter necessarily imply political office?

It necessarily implies a politically charged motive, as opposed to a more simple murder for economic profit.

ETA:  If Lennon had been a visible spokesman for some cause that Mark David Chapman had been opposed to, then it could have been called an assassination.  But if the killer is hearing voices that is generally ruled out.

Taking me back to the recent Mtn. Winery show. I feel very fortunate to have world class venues so close to home and wonderful artists that come to the Bay Area to play for us.
Thank you Mr. Knopfler!

I think to be assassinated you have to be a fairly prominent public figure. Politicians and Beatles qualify, in my book.

Adlai Stevenson was a force to be reckoned with in 1980?  I thought no one went madly for Adlai after 1957?

I recently read something somewhere discussing this very topic.  Unfortunately, the I read so many things on the web these days that I can't remember for certain where I read it.

Assassination happens to important people (MLK was assasinated, though he didn't hold public office).  Murder happens to average people (almost wrote "average joes" until I realized whom I was replying too).  Random deaths happen to poor people.

BOS2 "Stop Your Sobbin'".  May have to elevate this above the Straits tune. Best way to meet your dream man: record one of his songs.
