FYI: Tonite is Conan's last Tonight, and the musical guest will be Neil Young.

How was that episode?

Not bad, really. He took a few shots at NBC while he still could, but also said a few heartfelt things about his time with the network, and about his fans. Neil was good (but when did he get so old?), and the finale (Freebird) with Will Ferrell decked out as Ronnie Van Zant ca. 1977, and Beck, Billy Gibbons, Ben Harper, and Conan all on guitar was rather silly.

Finally saw the Elvis Costello episode with Brooooce (part 1 of 2) last nite. Just terrific. I'd forgottten that he wrote "Hungry Heart" for the Ramones, then decided to keep it for himself when Jon Landau said "don't you *dare* give that song away!"

Neil Young wins his *first* Grammy! And it's for Best Art Direction on his boxed set. WTF?

Super Bowl Music: Queen Latifah doing a wobbly version of "America The Beautiful".  And here's the amthem by... Carrie Underwood  Now that she's engaged to a hockey player, she better learn "Oh Canada".

er, this is pretty bad, folks. Easily the geezer-y-est of all the post-"wardrobe malfunction" SBHT acts.  Kinda sad. "Who Are You?" indeed.

The songlist, FWIW:

"Pinball Wizard"
"Baba O'Riley"
"Who Are You?"
a snippet of "See Me Feel Me"
"Won't Get Fooled Again"

I predict the NFL will go in a new (non-geezerish) direction next year.

Note that when "My Generation" came out in '65, people the same age as the Who are now were born in 1900.

I didn't know this, but some friends said they were CSI theme songs, which are on CBS!

Reviews of The Who's Super Bowl halftime show.  NY Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/08/sports/football/08who.html
and from LA Times:

wow, those reviews are overly kind, IMHO.  And geoff, I'd forgotten about the CBS connection -- that probably played a part in selecting the Who this year. I'm sure it made the "suits" happy.  I think we've seen the last of "geezer rock" at the SB. For one thing, there's nobody left of that stature who hasn't done it yet (except maybe the Police). Next year the game is in Dallas; i predict something countrified. Whether they go for one big name (Kenny Chesney?) or do some sort of Carrie Underwear/Rascal Flatts/Sugarland combo platter remains to be seen.  OTOH, there's always Coldplay. ::)

"Who Are You?" indeed.

I just wish they would have finished with "My Generation", and then had all the lights and sound go offf on the line "Hope I die before I get old".

The end.

Speaking of lights, very nice light show.  Actually, as I was at a party of old old friends, the whole show kind of worked for me.  We made fun of Daltrey's wig (which probably wasn't a wig) and Townshend's hat (stolen from J. Mraz).  But everyone knew the words to all the songs.

Had forgotten about the CSI connection.  I've just recently watched a few episodes of the Miami version, which, somehow, were my first CSI experiences.
