Friday 10/7/05--it's a 10@10 Freakout!
« on: October 04, 2005, 09:05:17 PM »
Once again, Dave's blog spills the beans ahead of time:

OK. For Friday's "10at10 FREAKOUT" (inspired by a weekend screening of "Riot On Sunset Strip")....

Here's what I got so far:

Amboy Dukes "Journey To The Center Of The Mind"
Electric Prunes "I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night
Dylan - "Rainy Day Women 12 & 35"
Donovan - "Mellow Yellow"
Count 5 - "Psychotic Reaction"
Jefferson Airplane - "White Rabbit"
Beatles - "L.in the S. with D."
Amboy Dukes - "I'll Prove I'm Right/Conclusion

Anything else? Anybody? Email (dmorey@kfog.com) or add to the "comments" section of the blog.

THANKS!!!

Not much there we haven't heard before. I think we can punch up that list a bit. Gentlemen? Lady? Let's discuss.
Let's get right to it.

You're on the right track, but I think it's more geared towards psychedelic songs about psychedelic drugs. I've never been quite sure what drug Comfortably Numb is about--Xanax? Valium?
Let's get right to it.

You know what would totally rule? If Dave played H.P.Lovecraft's "Mountains of Madness". Or "The White Ship". Grooooovey!

Alas, I won't be joining y'all today (Wed)- I'm doing a murder mystery in Livermore. I hope it's a good set. Have fun!

Tradewinds, "Mind Excursion"
Turtles, "She's My Girl" ("gettin' so high / up in the sky, that's where I was last night")
Love, "She Comes in Colors"
Electric Flag, "Groovin' Is Easy"
Jefferson Airplane, "Wild Tyme" or "Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon"
Ultimate Spinach, "Ballad of the Hip Death Goddess"
Beatles (yay), "Tomorrow Never Knows"

Dave wasn't content to make this one blog-only; he talked about it on the show today.  So now (if we know Fogheads and I think we do) he'll be deluged with "the usual suspects".

Wonder if that will or won't include "Legend of a Mind".

In keeping with the psychedelic theme here, I stumbled across another Nuggets compilation on the AMG front door--Children of Nuggets.

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:cu5j8q9xbtb4

Some interesting stuff, a few faves (Teenage Fanclub, Soft Boys, Bevis Frond), a good dose of the early-mid 80s Paisley Underground, and a lot of things I've never heard. Time to start making the Christmas list...

(And props to Gaz for the tip on removing all that gobbledygook from the AMG urls. Much more user-friendly this way.)

That'll be my Christmas present to myself I suspect.  Couple of Dukes of Strotsphere tunes on there I noticed.  Also a track from The Church that I was meaning to mention, "The Unguarded Moment" which predates "Under The Milky Way" & sounds quite a bit different.

not really my cup of tea, but here's Rhino's page.  If enough of you want this, I can order them through WEA.

Ah ha, these are all going to be Top 40 singles.  Well, this should be an early weekend for Dave, unless he play lengthy segments from the film itself.
