Funny... I was just reading in the All Music Guide... they described MTB as "derivative southern rock" at its worst.... I very much disagree.
Maybe not the worst...

TOTHK: "What is Hip?", TOP.  I feel like we just heard this recently.

ETA: RR played it (also as TOTHK) in Feb., in one of her better '73 sets.  But it's a bit of an FF, wonderful as it is.
Yeah, it seems like it appears a couple times a year, which probably does qualify it as an FF.  But can you think of anything better to have to hear once every six months?

Nope.  I think it's one of best songs of all time, and the only downside to hearing it a couple
of times a year on 10@10 is that it is an indication of a lack of effort to break new ground.

How in hell is MTB "derivative?"  Sheesh... whoever wrote that sounds like an idiot.

I think this set would have been improved with more synths...

While on the whole AMG is very good, every so often personal bias creeps in.

I have seen too many errors in AMG to put much stock in what they say.  And sorry, MTB is certainly not very original, if you don't like the word 'derivative.'  I saw them back in their heyday, opening for the ABB, and it was a pretty pale comparison.

My quarrel is with the term "derviative," which implies that MTB is not Southern rock, just
something similar and related to it.  However I think they are squarely in that genre, with no
qualification needed.  While I enjoyed hearing Take the Highway in this set, I am not
familiar enough with their work overall to render an informed opinion on whether they are
original and/or talented.  Their few appearances on 10@10 are evenly divided between this
song and Heard It In A Love Song.
