Steve Miller "Mary Lou" -- BOS4 just for not being "The Joker"

yeah, but...  I bet Mary Lou joined up with Billy Joe and Bobby Sue at some point. That's some threesome right there.

I love Madeline Kahn!

Paper Moon ---> Eddie Kendricks "Keep On Truckin'"

And I'm liking it... two funky songs in one set!

more Partridges --> "Let's Get it On". Cute segue, but I'd love to hear "Come Get To This" some '73 set.

And Marvin Gaye becomes the third R-n-B-leaning song in this set, which must be close to a record for a non-Soul Patrol.

indeed, tho' from my jaundiced perspective, all three were a tad too tried'n'true.

Overall, this was pretty damn solid -- a marked improvement over yesterday.

OMFG: Tom Waits' orig "Ol' 55". BOS3.

Ditto on the OMFG. Don't think it's a bustout, but close enough.  But I bet there's massive screaming going on over in GS-land.

the thing is, this doesn't sound like the raspy-ass Tom Waits that he would become. I actually checked Wikipedia to make sure there wasn't a cover version that year.

Yeah, his vocal style changed drastically over the four years between this and, say Small Change. (And would continue to do so for another decade at least.)

ETA: Had to duck out for a few minutes so missed everything after the Steve Miller. Hope they are quick about getting this posted to Soundcloud; I'll replay it again this afternoon. Overall seems like a pretty strong effort, although I get Tim's point about the R&B choices not being exactly obscure.
