Title: 14 June 2011: It's 1982!
Post by: Big Fingers McGee on June 13, 2011, 07:22:16 PM
Vote early and vote often! Already we have a request for "Waiting On A Friend".

I do have to voice my displeasure with AL mentioning Nancy Grace, who definitely creeps me out.

And Scott Fisher picks not one, not two, not four, but EIGHT songs that never need to be played again.

Speaking of being creeped out!  He also requested Don't Stop Believin'.  Oy.

I'd love to hear Beat Surrender and other left of the dial type of tunes and less Yacht Rock.

Your anti-"Believin'" rant is up to 9 "likes" right now! Poor Scott may slit his wrists tonite.  I plus-one'd "Gloria" and someone's Kid Creole request.

Yeah, no idea there.  Something tells me this is the time of night when AL's FBers wine & Vics start kicking in, judging from the comments.

We should make a list of the established rock acts who tried to make a New Wave-ish record circa 1980-83, and how many failed miserably.  This certainly qualifies.

The short list of those few who pulled it off includes Bowie & Robert Palmer, any others?

sorry I gotta WOS this for the precise reason in my previous post.  Woulda been a much better song if it had been produced in 1978 or something, with real drums and maybe some saxophone.

Now this is how you use a drum machine & synths.

ETA: and having gotten myself into this frame of mind, I realize how effective the use of accoustic drums & piano are on the bridge there.

I'd say the same about Genesis, love "Abacab" (BOS #3) but not a lot of the rest.

and I give us all some kudos for not taking the bait on Mike's coment about Linda going either way.

I don't think I've ever heard Barry M's "I'm Your man" -- presumably not a Wham cover.

I'd count Melissa Manchester's "You Should Hear How She Talks about You" as a success, but that's probably just me. Blue Oyster Cult also had a New Wave-y track whose title escapes me; the DJs on WPIX-FM at the time used to play it and say "that was The Blue Oyster Cars", heh heh.
