That would be lovely. But some Fogheads just seemed unclear on the concept.

"Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true." -- MLK quote from 1963, posted on Facebook yesterday by AARP California.
Just tuned into KPOO and they're playing Stevie's "Love's in Need of Love Today", which would be a fine suggestion for AL.

kicking it off with MLK and the Chambers Brothers' People Get Ready!

Who is singing this version of "I Wish I Knew How it Would Feel to beFree?" Sounds almost like Sam Cooke
ETA BOS2

Love this version of "Wish I Knew How It Feels To Be Free" -- but I forget who it is. AL played it once before, iirc.
oh now I know: Solomon Burke

I'm a collector of this song, but haven't heard this before. Bobby Womack sounds plausible.

Solomon Burke?
yup -- she played this shortly after he died last year.

We Shall Overcome, by Toots I think. Good one from last year's set.
-
Looks as if someone's hijacked the KFOG site. Went there a couple minutes ago to tune in for today's set and instead got an error page with a "Dotnetnuke" banner. WTF?
Lucky my browser had cached the url for the cumulus player, which is working just fine.
-
I am beginning to despair that we will ever overcome, I'm afraid.

Carole King's "Brother Brother" would segue nicely out of this but I'm not expecting it.

Allan Toussaint?

Yes we can! 10-way tie today, methinks, but special shout-out to Mr Toussaint.

Yes, indeedy! The original version of the song that would become our introduction to the Pointer Sisters by the man that wrote it.
Great gosh almighty!

Nice to hear "Stand," but too bad Sly no longer can.

I was just the 2nd on this. Dusti requested it first, and I chimed in from the Super Shuttle yesterday!

I was thinking the same & neglected to send a special shout out.
Hey POC! Sorry I didn't see you while you were here. Hope your travels were good.

Eventful travels, they were. But good, yes. We'll all have to catch up next time.

Nina taking us to post-April 4 territory after RFK's announcement.
so sad.
Why (The King Of Love Is Dead) - Nina Simone

Nina steals my BOS vote!

it's hard to BOS when the 'filler' between each song is MLK! I'm at the point of tears now, listening to Nina. This is way to close to home, current events wise.

guess you liked Separate Lies? Great flick that nobody saw.

This set is standing out for me as more memorable (heartfelt?) than previous years sets.

agreed agreed, plus all the audio clips
-
I lost count. Is this the end?
Rattle and Hum's Pride.
-
Damn, this RFK clip is still amazing.
U2's live "Pride" was inevitable, I guess.

I don't know if I liked it, or not. It was just the last film I saw.

I think I was the only person in the theater when it played here.

We Shall Overcome, by Toots I think. Good one from last year's set.
I remember an episode of the show "HOT L Baltimore" when the hotel staff wanted to strike, and one woman, who was supposed to be Puerto Rican, I think, thought the words were "We shall come over..." despite the awesomeness of that little joke, I think the show lasted one season.
BOS Allen Toussaint (ETA) and Chambers Bros
-
I lost count. Is this the end?
Rattle and Hum's Pride.
I think so. If so, today's set has included 5 of the songs from last year's set (O'Jays, Sly, Nina, Toots, and U2). But the five that we didn't hear before have lifted this set to new heights. That Annalisa, she gets it.
-
AL sounded pretty emotional on the backsell

I didn't think anyone but me remembered that show -- you must've been 6 years old when it was on!
-

I thought so too--the amount of time it took for her to open the mic was pretty lengthy, and then she seemed to pause after naming each song.
-
TANC: Miss Nina on KPOO. "Mississippi God-DAMN!"
"ah ain't 'BOUT to be non-violent, honey!"
-
I posted this on FB too, but it's really amazing. Gary Byrd was a NYC deejay and he collaborated with Stevie Wonder (who also produced) on this black-history rap. A huge hit in the UK in 1983, pretty much unknown here. We ALL wear "The Crown"!

heh, I was a little older than that. but I wonder if it's around on DVD..? The main characters included two hookers and a gay couple!

spacing out, correcting crappy tests while watching MSNBC, when suddenly they show a clip of MLK doing his last speech. I remember the replay, wait for the commercial break, then tune in KFOG, to hear the clip of MLK's last speech. TANC and powerful stuff indeed. I really miss him, and I didn't appreciate him like I do now. I always liked him, and was always inspired (hard not to be), but his words still resonate so deeply.

U2's live "Pride" was inevitable, I guess.
In the live version, does U2 correct the factually incorrect line on the studio version, "Early morning, April 4"?

I thought they corrected it on one live recording, not sure if it was this one.
