Title: 2 July 2010: it's an all-American Fourth of July
Post by: RGMike on July 01, 2010, 08:43:00 PM: or so says AL on FB. 43 comments so far, lots of requests for her to choose from, and I was #43 and yet I was the first to mention Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings fab version of "This Land Is Your Land". Woulda said X's "4th of July" but sundaygal beat me to the punch. Either one would be swell; if we get both it'll be amazing.

well, it's like New Years Eve: there's so much pressure to go out and have a good time on Dec 31st, that a lot of people end up unfulfilled and disappointed. Own your Laurie-inspired feelings for now, and in a few more weeks you can have an August Fourth celebration!

Shocked that none of you guys know American Music--their album of the same name is probably my favorite of theirs. It was long out of print but reissued about 8 or 9 years ago.

And props to the various denizens of this space for calling out so many of the songs that made it into today's set (and bonus track). I'm sure she could come up with a great set on her own, but it's cool that she's taking suggestions, and by the number that come from the contributors here, I think she digs that we're as into it as we are.
