I didn't know that was a Hall and Goats song.  I don't know this Depeche Mode song, but I bet you're liking it.

Hüsker Dü, I'm thinking -- this sounds like Bob Mould.  I never got into them, but I can see how they were influential.

I'll echo that sentiment.  I kinda feel that way about the Replacements too.  They're OK, but what's the big deal?  And I can't get past the association with the kid's game called Hüsker Dü.  Remember that commercial?

Was that William Hurt talking about how to protect your kids from bad language?  I imagine that was in response to Tipper Gore's PMRC efforts.  What does he have to do with music?

don't remember that game, gotta say.   Although I also wasn't into the 'Mats (as they are called aroud here sometimes), I have to say they have some songs that are accessible in a purely pop sense, like I'll Be You, for instance. And at least Paul Westerberg can carry a tune and his voice sounds pretty good, esp when compared to Bob Mould's.

BOS to Frank Zappa sounding downright sensible.

I think that was Frank Zappa.  I seem to recall the testimony at the time.

actually, there were more than a few mundane moments in the now that I recall:  Dire Straits, Stevie Nicks and Husker Du...

But BOS to Prince, Depeche Mode and Paul Young and Sade

I was listening but not at my computer to post.  I loved the second half of the set, but rather underwhelmed by the first half.

Little Steven did his annual Ramones show this week, which included that song.  Worth a listen.

BTW I had requested "Axel F" today; AL sez she'll save it for either instrumentals or a Movie Monday set.

Managed to hear that and the backsell, and that's about it for me today. Glad AL liked my request, that's always been pretty much my favorite latter-day Ramones song, partly because it *doesn't* sound like any other song of theirs. Not that there's anything wrong with that. :)

I'm a little ambivalent about the audience participation component that the FB page has brought to 10@10. She's played a few songs that I've asked for, so that's cool but being able to see what people are asking for--and just knowing the year/theme a day ahead of time pretty much every day--takes away the surprise factor, which I always enjoyed immensely. I will say however, that the requests that get taken are generally pretty cool songs, not the run-of-the-mill foghead stuff.

I felt that way when they started running promos every day for the next day's 10@10 during the Morey era. But AL's willingness to entertain requests to the extent that she has is astounding, compared to Dave's sometimes cranky reaction to suggestions. He'd've never played Cher for me or "Bitburg" for you, I'd wager.

Absolutely right, and that's the other side of my ambivalence--it *is* pretty neat to toss out the name of a song or a band, and have it pop up in the next day's set.
