Had to figure it was gonna be 76 or 79.
TOTHK: Boston, or the sound of a thousand "record" buttons being pressed at the same time.
-
pick you up and take you away!
BOS #1 Boston.
-

Smokin' with Boston pretty much defines the TotHK.
-
smokin' tokin' wheezin' & sneezin'
-
Is that an autoharp in the instrumental section?
-
a big week for Foghat! VHM "Fool Fo' da City"
-
BOS #2 Foghat, just because.
(and also my first time-out of the session)

BOS #2 Foghat, just because.
(and also my first time-out of the session)
Two songs, two bustouts so far. And Foghat, nearly as I can tell, is an artist bustout, too. Although I'd swear we'd heard Slow Ride at some point in the past.

Time-out? Did you do something wrong?
Better get back, honky cat.

that's surprising... BOS Foghat!!!
-
wow, not quite a bustout, but it's been 7 yrs since we last heard "Victim of Love". More guitar-centric heaviosity from Annalisa.
BOS #3.
-
I'll give a BOS for Eagles' "Victim of Love". Who didn't know every note on Hotel California?
PS Do we know why the site is so slow these days?
-
My first BOS of the day: Iggles, Victim of Love.
This song has Joe Walsh's mark all over it--excellent guitars throughout.
Also a nice segue from Mr. Bill into VoL.
-
Dontchoo cry no more.
BOS #4 Kansas!

OMG, I was thinking the same thing in almost the exact same mental wording: "This has Joe Walsh all over it." I swear it, you gotta believe me.
... a good slow-riff ride from Joe!

BOS #4 Kansas!
The Band played this earlier, at about 7 AM. I made my cat do a dance to it. (That's what she gets for climbing on the bed...)

that's surprising...
indeed -- "Smokin'" is a Drive perennial, so it sure seems like I've heard it a lot.
Carry on my WOS: Kansas
-
I just remembered, COMWS is another one for the Harpsichord list.
-
The arena rock continues with Kansas. It's prog pop-rock, dude!
I remember spending an afternoon hanging out with a friend at his bro's house, who was a bassist in a local bar band. He spent the entire afternoon practicing the bass part for this song, so we must have heard the same 15 bars of the song about 50 times. Or it seemed like it.
-
I just remembered, COMWS is another one for the Harpsichord list.
given the choice, I'll take the Partridge family over Kansas every time.
And forgive the crankypants, but bustouts or no, this is strictly AOR hitsville so far -- like one of Bob's '76 sets on the Drive.

well here you go then! "Boogie Man" gets a BOS for the horn section if nothing else.

BOS M*A*S*H*; BOS2 for some welcome disco from KC.

Welcome to the machine. You've been absorbed into the collective consciousness. It happens to all of us eventually. :)
BOS2 K.C. et all--he's our Boogie Man. You turn him on, I'm not in the mood.

not sure about that. Sound like ∏-anna to me. I think it's just pitch-adjusted to sound higher.

disco twin-spin! VHM Ms Nightengale.

if you ever get a chance to catch KC and His Sunshine Band at some county fair, it wouldn't be a waste of time. He has so many hits and his band puts on a decent show. BOS to the aging pasty plump King of Dee-sco!
-
PS Do we know why the site is so slow these days?
I probably shouldn't say anything for fear of jinxing myself, but for the first time in a week I haven't had any timeouts since the set began. (However it did timeout a handful of times between 9:30 and 10am.)
BOS3 Maxine Nightingale, a Davefave to be sure, but always sounding good with that chugging, handclappin' rhythm.
-

is that pronounced "Pie-anna"?
there's new upscale pizza joint in my 'hood called ∏

Strange Madge! ICK!
-
Wow, now *there's* a timely clip from the past.
"Get a shot of protection. Get a swine flu shot."
VHM ELO, Strange Magic.
-
well I couldn't find any confirmation that Steve Walsh played harpsichord on COMWS (credits are simply 'keyboards') but I was reminded of the infamous cover of his first solo album. AMG's Stephen Thomas Erlewine says this very well could be the greatest album cover in rock history (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:gcfoxqq5ldje).
"There are no less than four illustrations of Walsh, all shirtless and in running shorts, with the point of focus being an image of Walsh in sunglasses towering over a stadium and pointing two guns at the viewer (thankfully, he's being safe and wearing ear protection); above it is a glamorous head shot silhouetted by a mountain range, with his hair looking appropriately wind-swept; to the right is a shot of him singing and to the left, he's engaged in an indiscernible athletic activity. It's a portrait of an id raging out of control — it's the Dirk Diggler album brought to life! — and that's the sound of the record."

Excellent name, considering the food itself is served in circular form.
-
No here's a BOS for sure. Bad Company "Silver, Blue & Gold"
the color of the sky I'm told...my ray-ay-ainbow is overdue.
-
nothing wrong w this set of well-worn classic rock (and Disco), although it feels like a page ripped directly from the playlist of The Band, 103.7. Then again, nothing exceptionally surprising either.
Silver, Blue and Gold was a law firm, no?
-
BOS3 Silver Blue and Gold

O.M.G. File this under Songs of maternal bondage.
Give me all your love tonight!

OMG, awesome! he seems like a well rounded guy w many talents.. If anyone can shred* on a harpsichord wearing no shirt, aviator shades and running shorts from the 70s, it would be him.
* Of course, you cannot "shred" a harpsichord in the same way you can shred, say, an axe. No matter how hard you hit the keys, the h'chord will not sound louder. There is no correlation b/w force used on the keys and volume produced. This is b/c the strings are plucked and not hammered.

Not my favorite AC/DC, but to hear 'em anyway. Did Dave ever play them?
-
Oh. My. F--ing. GAWD! uber-BOS4 Queen, "Tie Your Mother Down"!!
Annalisa sees your "Oh. My. F--ing. GAWD! uber-BOS4" and raises you!
BOS & another Bustout AC/DC (and preemptive jinx on the bagpipe setlist!)
-
another hard-rockin' bustout! BOS5 AC/DC Bagpipes!
-
Best bagpipe of set, AC/DC It's A Long Way To the Top (If You Want to Rock and Roll).
And one more bustout, too. How many is that? 4? 5?
-
another BOS (and Alicat proxy) for Bon Scott & Co.

So hitting the key faster doesn't make it pluck harder? I guess it's just a very small effect. Anyway, I think there should be a biopic about him starring Owen Wilson.

from what I understand, no. Take a listen to harpsihord music and you'll notice a consistency in volume throughout But you will hear many variations in rhythm and pace, which is where much of the artistry comes in.
-
Not sure what I did right, but I got thru the entire set with no time-outs, but as soon as the back sell was done they started again, and I've had four in the ensuing 10 minutes or so. Must say, it was nice not to have to refresh for the better part of an hour.
Also, quite nice not to come out of the set into Green Day. Not sure when the last time was that it was played--the KFOG "just played" engine has a 2.5 hour lapse from 4:30am to about 7:10, but I'd bet it was in there somewhere. So once again, 21 Guns is probably past due.

And BOS from me to mighty Maxine Nightingale. Shortly after I moved to SF and discovered 10@10, Dave played this; I hadn't heard it in at least 20 years. I was walking near Geary and Fillmore when it came on (it was the evening replay), and jammed to Japantown as it played. A fond sense-memory of the period.

Caught the replay Sat morn while driving around doing errands, esp liked #8-10, but it occurred to me that KC's "Boogie Man" was not from '76, so looked it up. Sho' 'nuf, it hit the Top 40 4/77, went to #1 6/77. Their big '76 hit was "Shake Your Booty." Sorry AL, but gots to call it out when we catch it.
