Title: 23 July 2009: 1981
Post by: RGMike on July 23, 2009, 09:57:43 AM
'81, '83, '86, and '88 would seem to be the yet-untouched choices.

And '81 it is!

AAAAAACK! Diesel!  NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! WOS.

No small amount of irony in that clip, particularly the last bit saying that, at $5 an hour download charges and two hours (!) to download an entire edition of the Examiner, the new computer edition wouldn't be much competition for the newsprint version. My, how times change.

It was Fast Food Nation (horrible!). Not it's Kusturica's Underground (long!). The last film I saw.

yeah, FFN was a disappointment, considering the source -- I recommend Food, Inc, however. And Bruno, speaking of eating things one shouldn't ;)

Pre-1982 Dave sets had too many before-my-time-sounding songs to appreciate.  However Annalisa's 1980 set last week was outstanding so I was hoping today's would pique my interest too.  So far, not so. :(

Men at Work does get a HM though...as does the computer clip.  8)

That Steve Winwood song falls into the category of "songs with a super-cool intro that end up boring the hell out of me after the first few seconds." (Along with Pearl Jam "Better Man," Mariah Scary "Fantasy," and a few others.)

Maybe Mariah should've run for gov instead of Mary Carey.

God, love this riff.  And I've never really been into Rush. (Loved their hilarious appearance on Colbert where they faked playing an extended jam so long that Colbert went to bed in the studio and woke up or their finish at the beginning of his next show)

I *highly* recommend this LP if you've never heard it all -- released on an indie label the year before she struck it rich with "I Love RnR".

No clue about the orientations of Ms. Jett or Ms. Electra, but you do know that song is a cover, right? Originally recorded by Sweet in '74, it was penned by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, who wrote a number of Sweet's hits--Little Willy, Ballroom Blitz, Wig Wam Bam, to name a few, as well as Exile's Kiss You All Over and Toni Basil's one-off Mickey.

Meant to follow-up here: Men at Work in '81 is indeed a mistake (AL's first major screw-up that I can think of); their first LP first charted in July of '82.

actually not, but I didn't say anything at the time since I was so busy on Tuesday & pissed that I'd missed it.  But Stone Roses was from 1989, not 91.  BOS anyway when I heard the replay that night...on my way home from the office(!).
