2nd time in 10 days -- but yet another "new" (or at least different) opening from Dave.
-
1980 sounds better than 1987, which is at The Sound LA, but Lou Gramm's Midnight Blue does start off the LA set nicely!

"from the album 'Past Tense'" ;)
Journey followed by APP are not floating my boat; could the 10@10 streak of good (non-'90s) sets be over?
wait -- what's this? "Set Me Free"? sounds Billy Joel-ish. ETA: it'sTodd/Utopia, a def rarity.

No clue. Sounds like Styx cross-bred with Todd Rundgren.

BOSFRA to Utopia, Set Me Free. Not a blatant Todd tune, but I betcha it still gets BOS.
Btw, this set is from March 27, 2007, for those who like to read ahead.
-
Things are lookin up: BOS Boz, "Breakdown Dead Ahead", another rarity.

Who's the lead vocalist on this? It isn't Todd, is it?
ETA: Per AMG, it's Kasim Sulton. Uh, yah.

BOS2 MJ-when-he-was-black.

Whenever I hear this Journey song, I think of Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack
"So let's dance!"

No, I think it was Kasim Sulton, the bassist. He's the cuter, poppier one.

Mystery G-man! Don't breathe down my neck! BOS3 Chrissie & Co. with one of my very fave mondegreens.

one of the most amazing omissions in all of Moreydom is that the Beatle-loving, Todd-loving Dave has never played anything from Utopia's Fab Four-soundalike LP, Deface the Music

BOS4 T-Heads -- another rarity. This is turning out pretty damn good after a shaky start.
-
This is really quite a set. BOS for Talking Heads' "Houses in Motion".

This album is great, their peak. thanks eno!
-
"and the way that you came every night" er, dude, stop braggin'! proxy of cairo, Babys.

Fully agree. This was on my turntable at least once a day during my last year or so of college.
Chris and Tina would probably debate your gratitude to Eno, but he and Byrne sure did come up with a pretty fine piece of music, even at the exclusion of the rest of the band.
-
WOS for Carter's wildly misguided foreign policy choice. Hurts me to hear that.
-
That JCM -- I don't think he's EVER done with the nite.
-
"and the way that you came every night" er, dude, stop braggin'! proxy of cairo, Babys.
Surprised to see that this is the biggest K contender of the set. 12 appearances in the DB, outdistancing even the APP by 5 plays.

totally. he's a great man, a good person, smart, but his presidency is fascinating in the way it hot so many snags: with Congress and the energy policy, this Olympics debacle...
-
OMFG! BOS5 Zevon, "Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School" -- swear to god this is off vinyl, iirc.
-
Another BOS for rarity, the late Mr. Zevon's Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School. Yep, this was one of Dave's more remarkable 1980 efforts.

I knew there was a reason I'm sick of it! We heard it a couple of '80 trips ago, iirc.

me no likey much, but the Drive started their '87 set off with JCM's Check It Out, which I've come to love.

vinyl, ansolutely, there was as much clicking and popping in the opening notes as there was in all of The Zombies She's Not There. (I think I've used that before...)
-
I don't know much Zevon, including this track. I should dig in. So Dave's not back with new sets yet, is he?

and he won't be -- see the "Regarding Dave" thread under "Forum Feedback" (we even had a visit from the man himself, as "Michigan Dave").

Ahhhh crap.
