Dang , not one but two looooong songs.  Extra Special BOS for ""Closer To Home"

ETA: MAJOR flashback for me.  In late fall of '79 I made a trip to Cincy to visit with two girls I had met the summer before when we were all AFS exchange students to Germany (THE seminal experience of my life).  Theresa's older sister went to Miami OH, and and Suzie's older sister's boyfriend did too, so we spent the weekend there.  The sister's boyfriend put me up at his frat, and I had my very first taste of college life.

At one point we wound up in someone's dorm room & the guy pulled out a Fender bass, cranked up this GFR track and played the bass line all the way through.  After that, all I could think about was escaping High School & getting to college.

when I learned to pick out the opening riff to "25 Or 6 To 4" on an acoustic guitar, I was ecstatic.  It's easier than "Smoke On The Water!"

BOS 3, Niel.

Though, if I were to limit myself to 1 BOS, it would be 25 or 6 to 4, which just rocks so hard for a band that later turned into namby-pamby balladeers.

He wasn't solo in 1970.  What is this, tune 5 or 6?  We've had whole sets that were over by now, especially on a way-back Friday.

interesting that we heard "Evil Woman" (which I much prefer) from Bob the other day. I'm not fond of "Cottage Cheese" (the food OR the song  -- these vocals are borderline retarded).

An aside to this, I just finished reading "There's Always Magic In the Air: The Bomp and Brilliance of the Brill Building Era" by Ken Emerson. A little dry at times but still an interesting read, but it follows the whole Brill Building/1650 Broadway cast of songwriters from their youth all the way to about 1970, with lots of info on Aldon Music (Don Kirshner) and Hill and Range (another big publisher), too. Man the research that must have gone into this is just amazing. Leiber and Stoller, Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, Bacharach and David, Sedaka and Greenfield, they're all here. Mike, Gaz, I particularly recomment this to both of you if you haven't read it already.

Amazon can be truly amazing -- that's not the first 1-cent book I've bought.  Couple years ago, after reading Chabon's great Kavalier & Clay, I was reading his acknowledgements, and he mentioned a book called The Gay Metropolis, a history of gay culture in NYC from the '20s to the '90s, which he said was invaluable to him in researching the gay-in-the-'40s and '50s parts of K&C. And there it was on Amazon for a penny. And it's one of the most interesting books I've ever read.
