It just HAS to be 1968.
Not that I've heard any actual indication of it ahead of time, but we haven't been to the 60's since May 16 ('69) and we've had a '67 set and 2 '69 sets since our previous '68 set on 4/18. Plus Dave has done theme sets the past 4 Fridays.
ETA: shows what I know.

It's also Dave's birthday, so barring his birth year (1950? 51? LOL!), '68's a good bet.

I know he graduated from HS in 1968, because he told me on the phone once years ago. So this would be his 40th reunion.

oops...it's a 75-84 VT. harrrumph!
But BOS TOTHK Pilot, anyway.

Dave's right about this being a near-perfect TotHK, but I would've preferred 1968.
I am preparing a suggestion for next Friday, a South Africa/Nelson Mandel/Anti-Apartheid set for Nelson's 90th birthday.

the brothas and their johnsons make their 2nd appearance of the week.

That's excellent! I made an anti-apartheid mixtape in the late '80s -- I'll dig it out tonite and post the song titles.

Pilot, Bros. Johnson, Buffett sure bring back memories of those summers ;D

Really? What about "We're so cool, we're so fine, we're the class of '69!" I remember him chanting it.

or "we're so cool, we're so great, we're the class of '68"?

watching the sun bake all of those tourists covered in oil.
I'm sure Buffett had no idea that this song would be worth like a billion dollars to him when he wrote it.

Obviously Specials AKA, "Free Nelson Mandela"; also, I imagine 3DN, "Black and White" (unless you want to try for the original?); "People Got to Be Free" ...
-
I really did love "Margaritaville" in '77. Who knew it would spawn an empire!

Baker Street: the BIG HIT of summer 78

The songs on the tape were mostly Africa-specific, actually. But I like those too.
I declare a moratorium on "Baker Street"... but the "suits" will be pleased with today's set.
-

Parrothead trivia: What unusual distinction does Buffet share with Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, William Styron, Irving Wallace, Dr. Seuss and Mitch Albom?

Quickly scanning this, I thought you wrote the 'sluts' were pleased today. Which is quite a chore, let me tell you. :D
-
BOS2 ELO -- their most disco-y hit, and one Dave actually rarely plays (in fact iirc this is only its 2nd appearance ever)
-
BOS to ELO. Distracted by an obnoxious hack editor but trying to enjoy this set.

cool.
aside from the obvious: Special AKA, "Biko", "Sun City", one or another from Graceland...
I want to suggest UB40 "Sing Our Own Song", Simple Minds "Mandela Day", Johnny Clegg's "Asimbonanga", and a song by a very obscure (in the U.S. anyway) group called Latin Quarter titled "No Rope As Long As Time" that is perhaps the best anti-apartheid song ever, unless it's the Clegg tune.

I'm thinking they're all published authors -- is it that simple?

BOS3 H&O. This has gotten better in the last half.

It's on the right track. But it's something they all accomplished in the works they published.
-
wow the loooooooooooooooooong "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go?" -- VHM.
-
BOS, Tainted Love.

They all reached #1 on both the fiction and non-fiction NY Times Bestseller Lists.

TANC: phone call made me miss Eddy Grant, who was the guest on CG's retro-chart show this week. And his "Gimme Hope Jo'anna" is another great anti-apartheid song that, while a Top 10 UK hit, is unknown in the US.

Well, we got darn close!

The surprising part is that Dr. Seuss' non-fiction winner was "If I Ran the Circus".
