11 July 2008: VT 1975-1984
« on: July 11, 2008, 08:53:08 AM »
It just HAS to be 1968.

Not that I've heard any actual indication of it ahead of time, but we haven't been to the 60's since May 16 ('69) and we've had a '67 set and 2 '69 sets since our previous '68 set on 4/18.  Plus Dave has done theme sets the past 4 Fridays.

ETA: shows what I know.

It's also Dave's birthday, so barring his birth year (1950? 51?  LOL!), '68's a good bet.

I know he graduated from HS in 1968, because he told me on the phone once years ago.  So this would be his 40th reunion.

Dave's right about this being a near-perfect TotHK, but I would've preferred 1968.

I am preparing a suggestion for next Friday, a South Africa/Nelson Mandel/Anti-Apartheid set for Nelson's 90th birthday.

That's excellent!  I made an anti-apartheid mixtape in the late '80s -- I'll dig it out tonite and post the song titles.

Really?   What about "We're so cool, we're so fine, we're the class of '69!"  I remember him chanting it.

watching the sun bake all of those tourists covered in oil.

I'm sure Buffett had no idea that this song would be worth like a billion dollars to him when he wrote it.

Obviously Specials AKA, "Free Nelson Mandela"; also, I imagine 3DN, "Black and White" (unless you want to try for the original?); "People Got to Be Free" ...

I really did love "Margaritaville" in '77. Who knew it would spawn an empire!

The songs on the tape were mostly Africa-specific, actually. But I like those too.

I declare a moratorium on "Baker Street"... but the "suits" will be pleased with today's set.
