Alicat:  KFOG's "Now Playing" window is actually a Flash-based application that hits a website and gets the relevant info.  It used to use the HTTP POST format, but now uses XML.  At any rate, I hit the same website every 3 minutes, grab the data, and if it's a different song than 3 minutes ago, I record the time and info to a file.

mshray: Katrina Report -- cool.  Yeah, I know what Katrinas are.  :-}

You heard Van Halen this morning?  Shoot - my script to record KFOG's playlist is definitely malfunctioning then.

Interesting though -- in 2 years of data, Van Halen only shows up once during non-10@10 airplay:  last Friday at 4:12PM.

My script is flaky, but still, if they ever played them, odds are it would've picked it up at least once.

Of course Dave plays Van Halen from time to time:

Anybody here like stats?  Ultimately it'd be better if I could figure out what tracks were "new", but that's beyond my feeble programming skills.

KFOG's 10@10 / 2 May 2006 -- another "classic" from 1975

Thanks for the welcome.  I also have been keeping track of KFOG's playlist overall for the past couple of years.  It's got some holes here and there, due to computer/network failures, but I just revamped it due to KFOG's website redesign, and I think the data is good again.

It's interesting to when and how KFOG starts pushing new music at us, and I like to check to see if it's just my imagination or not that certain songs get overplayed or not.  I started talking about this over in the New Music thread, in case anybody is interested.

Gnarl's Barkley Crazy?  Yeah, it's catchy, I guess, and yeah, I guess Benson really is behind it.  Since he introduced it back on April 27, they've spun it 2-3 times a day.

(Yeah, along with 10at10, I also try to keep track of every song KFOG plays, thanks to being able to hack their "Now Playing" thingy.)

What caught me by surprise was hearing Rosalie play Ray Lamontagne's version of Crazy!!  I didn't catch where she got the track, but it's out on the internet if you Google.  I wonder where he recorded it, and if it's ever been officially released.  I wouldn't mind paying for it, but for now I'm listening to an MP3 of unknown origins.

I heard somebody interviewing somebody about "What if your daughter chose to have an affair", and the woman replying, "Well, I'd want to meet the young man, to see if he was suitable..."

Was that more on Patty Hearst?

Also -- I really really dug the Bowie track.  I'm sorely lacking in Bowie knowledge or listening, so I was surprised to hear one of my favorite sax players, David Sanborn blowing on it.

Also -- hi everyone -- I'm Darryl, who maintains that ugly but functional archive of Top Ten lists going back ... huh, a few years now.  Glad that y'all have found it useful.
