Live 105 played "Crazy" Sunday, whilst I was driving around Alameda.  Amazing that I recognized it right away, after having only heard it the one time from your link.

Annalisa was just saying how Dave will be back on the Morning Show tomorrow & she'll be back on Mid-Days, but first she wanted to preview New Releases Thursday, and the first song she mentioned was "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley.  Wonder what the Fogheads will think.

The fix seems to be in -- it's already in fairly heavy rotation, so What Fogheads Think doesn't seem to be a factor. They'd have to actively dislike it (I mean, a major e-mail campaign) for KFOG  to stop playing it at this point.

Gnarl's Barkley Crazy?  Yeah, it's catchy, I guess, and yeah, I guess Benson really is behind it.  Since he introduced it back on April 27, they've spun it 2-3 times a day.

(Yeah, along with 10at10, I also try to keep track of every song KFOG plays, thanks to being able to hack their "Now Playing" thingy.)

What caught me by surprise was hearing Rosalie play Ray Lamontagne's version of Crazy!!  I didn't catch where she got the track, but it's out on the internet if you Google.  I wonder where he recorded it, and if it's ever been officially released.  I wouldn't mind paying for it, but for now I'm listening to an MP3 of unknown origins.

Coincidentally, I'm seeing a performance by Eno when I'm in Bath in a couple of weeks. It's part of the Bath Music Festival, and he's collaborating with a pianist, a local choir, and some sonic reinforcement to "play" the acoustics of the Bath Abbey. I have no idea what to expect, but it should be pretty cool.

Recently Gaz was bemoaning the lack of angry political songwriting by today's popular artists. Well, this morning on KPIG I heard an amazing, scathing critique of Bush called "Mr President", sung by (of all people) Pink!  Dunno if any other radio station besides the Pig will dare play it, but OMG what a lyric.

I have heard of this song, but not sure if I've heard it yet.  I do listen to a lot of KPIG, so maybe I have.  Thank God for KPIG!

Alas, I've not listened to KPIG.  But here's what I have listened to this week:

Prince, 3121 - "Te Amo Corazón" and "Fury" are phenomenomenal (for those who heard Musicology, it's the new album's equivalent to "A Million Days," only more passionate; I still like Prince best as a rocker); too much predictable loverman balladry, but still likely Top 10 for the year.

Teena Marie, Sapphire - DUD.  Overly satin-y and bloated.  (The album, not her, though it might apply to her as well.)

Neil Young, Living With War - Instant Classic, especially "Restless Consumer."  Y'all have got to listen to this in its entirety; it's still available for free online streaming. at http://www.hyfntrak.com/neilyoung2/AFF23130/ and other mirrored sites.

Paul Simon, Surprise - Only heard two tracks, but they seemed cluttered.

Van Hunt, On the Jungle Floor - Some great moments, but no more essential than the new Prince, which is really unfortunate when you think about it.

Morrissey, Ringleader of the Tormentors - Quite possibly his best solo album to date, and that's saying a lot since I loved You Are the Quarry.  I'd love to write an essay on this one.  He sounds, for the first time, utterly free of the pressure to make a Smiths record; and what his voice has lost in gravitas it's more than gained in malleability.  The songwriting is mostly splendid, particularly "Dear God, Please Help Me," the record Robbie Williams wishes he were courageous enough to make and which sums up pretty much everything Boy George wanted to say before he became a club kid at age 40.  You can stream lead single "You Have Killed Me" at http://myspace.com/morrissey .

Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs, Under the Covers, Vol. 1 - I gave Matthew another chance even though the Thorns disappointed me so, like Frosted Mini-Wheats with no milk.  Happily, he and Susanna harmonize marvelously, and the more obscure their choices on this covers album, the better they are, especially on the Left Banke's "She May Call You Up Tonight" and the Zombies' "Care of Cell #44."  I think most of you would love this.  Even though Matthew is disturbingly turning into Leslie West in appearance.

Gnarls Barkley, St. Elsewhere - Only a small amount of filler in the 14 tracks, and barring a religious experience it will be my #1 album of the year.  Get it get it get it.  You're welcome.

Hey -- I listen to KPIG, or used to... Wow, Pink played there?  Ah -- a political song, and w/ the Indigo Girls.  I'll definitely have to check out the video.  Anyways, here's something to kick off the KPIG thread, if you wish:

But back to new music on KFOG... I wish I really knew how to crunch stats so I could show which songs pop up for the first time during a certain month.  I probably should just throw the data up in a database and let you guys have a crack at it.  But just now I heard a track I'd never heard on KFOG:

Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life".  Ugh.  Not only overplayed.  But overplayed like, last year, or the year before that.  Anyways, first spin I've ever seen was May 12, and then they played it twice today, around noon and then just now at 9:30PM.

Just browsing through the last month's playlist, I found one other band/track that stuck out:  The Postal Service      SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS

Played once Mar. 31, once Apr. 28, but since May 3 they've played it 6 times... every few days it seems.

And how's this for odd:  the original Katrina, Walking on Sunshine, played Wed May 3, at 6:33PM!  That's not when Big Rick replays BOS, is it?  Nevermind, BOS for that day was Queensryche.

Ok, and this one is new, but my wife and I (and Renee) hate it:  Hoobastank!  Ugh.  Hoobastinks!  Let Live 105 play that!

Ok, just went through all the tracks from the last month, and picked out artists that seemed "odd"...

Fatboy Slim's "Praise You" -- pretty good song from , hilarious Spike Jonez video, but uh, this is pretty new.  Played 4 times in KFOG history before May 4.  Since then they've played it 7 times this month.

Oh well, that's all I've got.  Interesting things to sneak into the playlist.  I wonder where they're going.  Seems a little like a step towards Alice territory.

Indeed -- I have no use for Hoobastank at all. But apparently "Dave likes it" -- he and Renee were arguing about it the other morning. First time I've heard anyone on KFOG admit to hating something on the playlist.

But your Alice comment makes sense -- if you mean what Alice used to be, like, 6 or 7 years ago.  There are probably people (mostly female) who don't listen to Alice anymore but who listened then.  So where did they go?

i checked out the pink/indigo girls outing. none of the videos i saw listed on youtube was the official one, but i watched one, anyway. sort of a boring song, really. words are alright, but sound totally uninspired. in a northern lights, "tears are not enough" sort of lackluster way.

morrissey, on the other hand, was delightfully surprising. i was frightened by the ho-hum intro, but it picked up soon after. once a phrase-turning crooner, always a...i think he should play this in concert followed by "the more you ignore me, the closer i get."

i, too, have been grooving on st. elsewhere, but that's about the only new music i know. i saw a terrible busta rhymes video yesterday (featuring mary j., and some other ladies dressed in white), and an even worse robbie williams video. some tibetan-themed, "sin!sin!sin!" number. i wish he'd hang it up.

the rest of my recent faves are not-so-recent:

harry connick, jr., lofty's roach soufflé: excellent trio album release back when he was still a jazz musician.

grover washington, jr., ultimate collection: full of wonderful cop show theme-style music we all know and love.

blue angel, blue angel: the ultimate post-50's pop album (ok, i made that one up) that exemplifies why cyndi lauper is so much better than madonna. a must-have for pitney fans.

neko case, blacklisted, fox confessor brings the flood, and furnace room lullaby: three great albums from the second coming of the cowboy junkies.

the very one! i had the lp, but lost it in a move. couldn't find anything on cd after that, so i was delighted to find it in its entirety on napster years ago. i copied it onto three different cds, just to be sure...i think they only made the one lp. i'm sure it's on amazon by now, though.
