Fun stats
« on: May 02, 2006, 02:38:42 PM »
Anybody here like stats?  Ultimately it'd be better if I could figure out what tracks were "new", but that's beyond my feeble programming skills.

For instance, for April, here were the top 10 spins (first # = number of times played during the month):

81 U2      ORIGINAL OF THE SPECIES How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
75 Death Cab for Cutie     CROOKED TEETH   Plans
73 Jack Johnson    UPSIDE DOWN     Curious George Soundtrack
73 SANTANA I DON%27T WANT TO LOSE YOU
71 Hard-Fi CASH MACHINE    Cash Machine EP
57 Ben Harper      BETTER WAY      Both Sides of the Gun
55 Susan Tedeschi  LOVING YOU IS SWEETER TH        Hope and Desire
51 INXS    AFTERGLOW       Switch
49 MARK KNOPFLER AND EMMYLO        THIS IS US
47 Jackie Greene   I%27M SO GONE   American Myth

Anybody interested in previous months?

I knew U2 would be #1 & figured Death Cab was up there.  And the Jack Johnson.  Every time my 6-yr-old hears that tune he tells me (in his best Daddy-I'm-pretty-smart-am-I-not? voice), "Ummm Daddy?  I know what this song is."  And he is pretty smart, because we did NOT take him to see the movie.

And yeah, I'm interested in previous months.

In case that report (or even the question) doesn't make sense, a Katrina is what we call any tune that Dave has overplayed within a given year of 10@10's, so named because back when we were a Yahoo Club several years ago "Walking On Sunshine" by Katrina & The Waves, seemed to show up in 80% of all 1985 sets.  Now it is less common than a couple other tunes from that year & quite a bit less common than other tunes in other years, such as Robbie Nevil's "C'est La Vie".  But once coined the term has stuck.

One of my favorite songs, but I never hear it anymore.  I must not listen at the right times.

Alicat:  KFOG's "Now Playing" window is actually a Flash-based application that hits a website and gets the relevant info.  It used to use the HTTP POST format, but now uses XML.  At any rate, I hit the same website every 3 minutes, grab the data, and if it's a different song than 3 minutes ago, I record the time and info to a file.

mshray: Katrina Report -- cool.  Yeah, I know what Katrinas are.  :-}
I remember peeking in on your old boards a few years back.

so, I was wondering lately about Althea by Grateful Dead.  Do your logs show this song played outside of 10@10?

So, we've heard "Althea" twice since then, once in August & once in Jan, which was a classic.  Interesting to note the drop off in frequency after the top 3.  19 songs total, & the top 3 account for 71% of the total.  This is what I was talking about with regards to the Graceland album a few days ago.

Welcome Darryl! You rule!

We've recently discussed the frequency of non-current songs on KFOG; certain oldies seem to get played a LOT. Recent examples:

Aerosmith, "Sweet Emotion"
Queen/Bowie, "Under pressure"
Queen, "Killer Queen"
Elton, "Rocket man"

If the Dead's "Good Lovin" was played 19 times in 3 months (or only 6 times a month), the above songs at their overplayed peaks must've been getting 5 times that many plays!
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round
