KPOO etc week of 5/7/12

2NG's retro-chart today is from May 1975.  Lots of only-in-the-UK cheeze (the Wombles! the Goodies! the West Ham football team!).

Delightful: the Stylistics' "Star on a TV Show", which shockingly never even made the US Top 40.

Sublime: Jackie Wilson's "The Sweetest Feeling", on the 2nd of its 3 UK chart go-'rounds ('72, '75 and again in '87).

Silver Convention's "Save Me" never even charted in the US -- it's sure better than their "No No Joe"

OMG: Ian Hunter's orig "Once Bitten..." which was a Top 20 UK hit. "You didn't know that Rock'n'Roll burned" -- there's an ointment for that, Ian.

Mac & Katie Kissoon's "Don't Do it baby" is NTM. Ditto the Sharonettes (who??) covering "Papa Oom Mow Mow" -- seriously, I know the Brits were '50s-crazed at that time but WTF?

Holy flaming mother of Gaz: the best ABBA imitation evah -- "Ding-A Dong"

Glen Sauter's Oldies show -- just heard Peppermint rainbow's *other* hit, "Don't Wake Me Up in the Morning, Michael". Don't, worry, I'll be very quiet, baby.

Followed by the Cherry Slush -- "I Cannot Stop You".
