KPOO etc week of 2/13/12

Once again WDAS plays an unexpected "looong" version -- in this case the Supes' "Stoned Love" with the long intro that you almost never hear. Impressive.

JJ just played the Sweet Inspirations (feat Whitney's mom, Cissy Houston) doing "This World" -- I had no idea the Staple Singers' version was a cover!

'DAS keeps amazing me: a Jr Walker rarity called "Tune-Up".

followed by Rev Al and then poor sweet fat Kim Weston -- mah arms too short to take you in 'em, honey!

ETA: Day-um! Stevie's "Superwoman", which they're letting track into "Where Were You When I Needed You"!

and this was also NTM: Tina Britt, "The Real Thing", sounds like what Larry Grogan would call a Northern Soul floor-filler:

and -- holee crap! -- here's the Jerry Butler version of "Brand New Me"

2NG's retro chart today is Feb 1972 -- I'm def sticking with that, no matter what "classic" KFOG has lined up.

great start with Miss Shirley Bassey, "Diamonds Are Forever"!

a Gaz-tastic array of Britsh '70s Pop: Bee Gees, "My World", Gilbert O "No matter How I Try", Fortunes "Storm in a Teacup" and of course the fab "Softly Whispering I Love You"

"All Ah Evah need is Yew, hawney!"  And Bread says "Baby, I'm a wan shoe"

I have a 10:30 meeting, so I'll miss most of the Top Ten, but damn: Greyhound's reggaefied "Moon River" is delightful, and Chicory Tip's "Son of My Father" is always a treat.

Home on the first day of a 4-day weekend, turned on WDAS and get this NTM cover of the Detroit Emeralds' "Feel The Need" by Graham Central Station. Damn!

And suddenly... it's 1975!  WDAS just segged from "Lady Marmalade" to Disc-O-Texx. Which makes Monti Rock III only the 2nd white artist I've heard on this station (the first being the Righteous Bros). My chiffon is indeed wet.
