KPOO/KCDX etcetcetc week of 11/21/11

JJ is "on fire!" this morning -- Ree-Ree's "Call Me", Laura Lee's "Rip-Off" and now the fab Dixie Hummingbirds with their Simon-less version of "Loves Me Like a Rock".

dude, I just tuned in and am hearing just these same songs!

That Laura Lee one was fun:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi01cDHOUJk

.. and I lurve Lurves Me Like A Rock, it's the Tuesday morning Gospel hour...  (actually, I sometimes leave Emmet Powell's gospel show on.  Not only is the music pretty amazing at time, but Mr. Powell has a fantastic presence.  I miss his chicken.)

Ooh, a Rufus song that's NTM (sadly, my depth of Rufus' work is limited to their radio hits.)

[JJ threw in that uber-scratchy Marvin Gaye song, and I suppose I could've down without that since you hear it so often on other stations, but how often do you hear it on 45?  "CDs just won't do!"]

ETA:  JJ says this was Poppa and the Utopians from SF's own Fillmore District, doing  I Cry For Joy or is it called Love Is Gonna Find Me. it's got some good falsetto.

And now Jermaine's cover of "Daddy's Home" -- in '72 everyone mondegreened "your best friend wrote and told me" as "your best friend Rhoda told me" because of the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

I usually stick around for the '60s hour but Bob is doing "Duets" on the Drive and I'm curious what he'll come up with.

"Ahm tired o' bein' neglected!
Ahm gonna slap him in the face with the unexpected!"

Spending the afternoon with Underground '80s -- B-52s, "Quiche Lorraine", Fred's gayest performance (which is saying something).

Wow: haven't heard Stephen "TinTin" Duffy's "Unkiss That Kiss" in ages.

OMGWTF-of-the-Day: Oasis covering Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody".

ETA: first airing of the season for "Fairytale of NY". Oh, Kirsty. Happy Christmas, yer arse!

For those who can't wait until noon, WLNG will be airing "Alice's Restaurant" in a few minutes.
