it's the '70s soul-cheeze hour on KPOO: "Float On" (loooooong version) followed by "You Are My Starship". Don't you come too soon, baby.

JJ plays Oscar Brown's "Lone ranger" -- "watchoo mean WE, white man?"

Oh. My. Fucking. GAWD: JJ plays Joe Frazier's version of "My Way" -- rarity of the YEAR, dawg.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dpwiiqe2830

and here's "Little" Carl Carlton, "Competition Ain't Nothin' Y'all", followed by Dorothy "Oh Happy Day" Morrison, "All God's Children Got Soul" and the Impressions' fantabulous "We're a Winner". And Ray Charles' "Yesterday"!

"JJ is on FIRE today!"

Lawdy -- Irma Thomas' "Ruler of My Heart", later re-purposed by Otis as "Pain in My Heart".

And JJ has a big finish with Sly's "Life" -- tell it like it TIZ! "If he'd stop bein' so shady/he could have himself a nice young lady!"

Yeah, it's a tad early, but Soma-FM has fired up their Xmas streams, "Xmas in Frisco" and "Xmas Lounge"  -- and they work for me  via the 32K WMP player.  I just realized that fab "Underground '80s" stream of theirs is the ONLY one that doesn't have a 32K WMP version, which is the only choice of theirs that works on my work PC. Every other stream of theirs that I would never listen to in a milllion years has a 32K option!

Mondegreen of the day: some scandinavian-sounding outfit doing "Rocking around the Xmas Tree" flubbed "deck the halls with boughs of holly" as "set the house with lots of holly". Talk about English as a 2nd language!

NTM: Millie "My Boy Lollipop" Small doing "I've Fallen in Love With a Snowman". Hope he has a big, er, carrot...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6jJKSeCzzI

ETA: it ain't the holidays without da Tap: "Christmas with the Devil"

OMGWTF: Lou Reed, "Xmas in February"

It will be hard to leave the Boardwalk today. Archie Bell, "Gonna be a Showdown" followed by Barbara Acklin's sublime "Love Makes a Woman" has me in a fine state o' mind.

I emailed them about it and they responded in less than a minute!

"There isn't much demand anymore for the WMA 32k streams, so we kind of forgot about them. :-) But I'll make a note to put one in place for Underground 80s".

Kewl!

Listening now.  First song is "Dead Man's Party".   ::)

ETA:  Alison Moyet's "Love Resurrection".  Haaaay!  This station reminds me of KROQ back in the 80s.  That's a good thing!

Whoa!  I haven't heard Art of Noise's "Legs" in ages.

yes, it's great. They play some standard stuff but will sprinkle the playlist with some nice nuggets.

First Crosby/Bowie "Drummer Boy" sighting of the season. Can it beeee?  Soma-FM has KOIT beat this year.

ETA:

"Piggy pudding??"

"No, FIGGY pudding. Made with figs... and bacon."

That just never gets old.

OK, I suppose it makes sense for Jimmy Buffet to do "mele kalikemakka" but that doesn't make it good.

ach du liebe! this is one wacked-out German techno Xmas anthem. "spare ribs and eggnog"? WTF?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A3kMTZwSQ8

Oh HELLS yeah! the Weather Girls "It's Raining Santas "Dear Santa, Bring Me a Man"!  "turn the lights down low/and let it snow!"

Followed by Mr Garrison's "Merry F--king Christmas"!

to steal an old line from somebody (Ben Stiller?): N'Sync doing "Last Christmas" really N'Sucked.

Holee crap..!   ThreetenRadio The 70s is playing Demis Roussos.

Don't know who Demis Roussos is?

Well, then you've never sat through Mike Leigh's excruciating Abigail's Party.

Just turned it on (they set up the 32K stream just for me!) and TANC, it's Human League's "Mirror Man", followed by obscure and NTM Naked Eyes, "Fortune & fame"

OMFG: one of my fave Style Council songs, "Speak Like a Child".

OMFG2: OMD's "Locomotion", another long-standing, unfulfilled 1983 AL request.

OMFG3: Feargal Sharkey, "A Good Heart" (written by Maria McKee, iirc).

all of the above OMFGs were HUGE on the local suburban-NYC alt-rock station back then and I haven't heard them on SF radio since moving here.

Wow: T.Heads, "Making Flippy Floppy".

Wow2: Yaz, "Didn't I Bring Your Love Down?"
