I've now heard a couple of tracks from the new Raphael Saddiq CD, more of the same of his now-patented "old-school" retro-soul. And that's a good thing. Quite nice.

Not new but NTM: Shelby Lynne's lovely ballad re-interp of "I Only Wanna Be With You", which I just heard on 1340 The Boardwalk. Not a visually stimulating clip, as you'll see (WTF?), but all the better to concentrate on the vocal.

Thanks for the tip! I'm enjoying the album.

NTM courtesy Larry Grogan: an answer record to "Want Ads" -- sadly the only clip on YT is this trunacted version, but you get the idea:

NTM, courtesy 1340 the Boardwalk: Wild Cherry, with "1-2-3 Kind of Love" one of their unsuccessful follow-ups to "Play That Funky Music", and a delightful "beach music" track that's making me reconsider a band I've always considered one of the more annoying OHWs in history:

turns out some contestant on "Britain's Got talent" sang the song and Tracy's orig version shot into the singles chart. Them Brits is even cwazier than we are, reality-TV-wise.

NTM, and a hat-tip to Vin Scelsa:

Petra Haden has an album where she covers the ENTIRE The Who Sell Out LP (including the faux commercials) and does it all a cappella and does ALL THE VOICES herself. I heard this "I Can See For Miles" on Scelsa's show.

Gaz will especially like this if he hasn't already heard it: NTM, a group called the Will-O-Bees doing a very Seekers-like cover of "Shades of Gray", a deep Monkees LP cut (from Headquarters) and another stellar Mann/Weill composition.
