I'm totally in love with this new band, Best Coast.  Their sound is a mixture of girl group, surf pop and garage rock.  What's not to love?  Their debut album is coming out on July 27th.  Here's a sizzample (and cute video):

Very nice! -- sounds like it should be a Little Steven "Coolest Song of the Week", he LOVES this kinda stuff.  How long before they get sued by McDonalds? ;)  Did her resemblance to a certain Ms Harry have an influence on you, SG?

When One Eskino's "Kandi" broke earlier this year (and both Rob and AL dug up the original "He Called Me Baby" to play on 10@10), I went to Amazon to find a Candi Staton anthol -- there wasn't one then, but there is now:

http://www.amazon.com/Candi-Staton/dp/B0000DG5N0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1279898971&sr=1-1

is a collection of 26 of her hits and LP gems from her time on the Fame label out of Muscle Shoals, including "...Baby" and her covers of "Stand By Your Man" and "In the Ghetto".

there's also this late-'70s collection with her disco-comeback hits "Young Hearts Run Free" and "Victim"

http://www.amazon.com/Young-Hearts-Run-Free-Best/dp/B000002MTN/ref=pd_cp_m_2_img

Yeah, you have to buy both to be a completist. But beware of collections that appear to combine songs from these 2 -- they're inferior re-recordings.

I finally bought the new Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings album this week.  Truly outstanding: the band and their producers have added The Sound of Philadelphia to their vast arsenal of R&B.  Opening track "The Game Gets Old" is in my top 3 songs of the year; title track "I Learned the Hard Way" is in my top 10.

Thanks for reminding me I still haven't bought it; I'm off to Amazon.

New Michael Jackson album due in November
Rolling Stone reports that a ten-song album filled with never-before-heard Michael Jackson songs is due out in November via Sony. It is not yet known which Jackson era the songs are from-- the late singer's manager told Rolling Stone there are "more than 100 completed and unreleased songs" in existence, including relatively recent collaborations with Akon, Will.i.am and Ne-Yo as well as tracks left off classic albums like Thriller and Bad. The album is the first of 10 forthcoming projects as part of a $250 million dollar deal with Sony that includes reissues, a greatest hits, and a DVD.

Any MJ releases will reek of desparation.  I heard one partial track, which riffed off America's "Horse With No Name" (Janet musta consulted), and didn't hear much completion or ambition.  I really think MJ lost his urge to create, got pushed into it grudgingly by talented folks and did only as much as he needed to, from '89 on.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find that new Alpha Rev song extremely irritating?

But, just so I don't sound like a total downer,  ;) yay for the new Arcade Fire being the #1 album.

I've only heard the Alpha Rev a couple times (that's what ya get for listening to KFOG after 10@10, Rad347!)  but I can see how it will annoy the crap outta me if it becomes a staple a la Cold Platrol. Arcade Fire, OTOH, annoys me on principle.

If fans got last years remasters, why release these??  ('Cause they'll sell too)
Beatles’ original 1973 compilations, 1962-1966 (‘Red’) and 1967-1970 (‘Blue’) have been remastered for CD release Oct 19.  Both 2CD packages include expanded booklets with original liner notes, newly written essays and rare photos: http://beatles.com/#/news
