The Drive, week of 5/16/11
« on: May 16, 2011, 08:20:12 AM »
Mon 5/16/11: 1973

Ringo to start, then internet problems.

Jackson Browne takes it easy, but Bob doesn't let the tune track into "Our Lady of the Well".  Skynyrd show up with "Simple Minded Man". Chicago feels stronger, Rick D does the hootchie-koo, and Stealer's Wheel are stuck.

Ringo Starr - Photograph
Aerosmith - Dream On
Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same
Jackson Browne - Take It Easy
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man
Chicago - Feeling Stronger Every Day
Dobie Gray - Drift Away
Rick Derringer - Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo
Stealer's Wheel - Stuck in the Middle With You
Pink Floyd - Money

betting AL's '73 today is more interesting.

Does Bob ever pass up a chance to include a Chicago song in his 10@10s whenever the year is appropriate? I realize they're a local band and all (how could one not?) but still. I swear, they show up at least once a week.
Let's get right to it.

Wed 5/18/11: 1968

Bob hopes to pluck a dusky jewel. I hope to hear something I haven't heard a gazillion times.

BOS1 S&G, "America"

oh honey, "Hush".

BOS2 "Rocky Raccoon". "Her name was McGill, and she called hersellf Lil, but everyone knew her as Nancy" --er, wha?

I'm at the point where I'd prefer to hear Faith Hill's country version of "Piece of My Heart". Does that make me a bad person?

TJ wants to crimson-and-clove her. Yum!  Bonus: the loooong version!

The Nuge takes a journey to the center of Mike Huckabee's mind. Scary shit.

always a BOS for Dusty and that goddamn SOP.

Yeesh, Kermit, er, Canned Heat go up the country and down the drain.

Yikes. Bob in the '80s.

But wait:  BOS and proxy of shray "Somebody's Baby".

Who can it be Katrining at my door? Someone in a slit skirt, perhaps?

the Money man is shakin' and America does magic -- VHM and proxy of Gaz.

VHM Lady Antebellum Alan Parsons. "I Need You Now Like I Need an Eye In the Sky".

even now, I'll give Seger a VHM.

Jackson Browne - Somebody's Baby
Men at Work - Who Can It Be Now
Pete Townshend - Slit Skirts
Eddie Money - Shakin'
America - You Can Do Magic
Alan Parson Project - Eye in the Sky
Bob Seger - Even Now
Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf
Asia - Only Time Will Tell
Steve Winwood - Valerie

Fri 5/20/11: the end of the world!!

a last-minute decision by Bob, bumping the previously-skedded 1970, bless his heart.

Zep, "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" to start. heh.

Wilburys, "End of the Line". Hee.

BOS1 Def-Lep, "Armageddon It".

"Homeward Bound" -- that's cute.

yo, world -- I'm losin' you. OK, this one's a bit of a stretch, IMHO.

interesting: U2, but it's "Elevation" rather than "Until the End of the World".

BOS2 Psychedelic Pstones, "2000 Light Years From Home". Stevie Wonder's "Heaven is 10 Zillion Lightyears Away" would go nicely after this.... but no.

BOS3 "Ashes to Ashes" --I must say this set is more creative than I was expecting. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" indeed.

Wondering if Larry on the Sound will also do an armageddon set.

Ending (LOL) with REM, which Webster said was the (not surprising) #1 request from Fogheads. "That's great, it starts with an earthquake..."

Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
Traveling Wilburys - End of the Line
Def Leppard - Armageddon It
Simon & Garfunkel - Homeward Bound
Temptations - (I Know) I'm Losing You
U2 - Elevation
Rolling Stones - 2000 Light Years From Home
David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes
Bob Dylan - Knockin' On Heaven's Door
R.E.M. - It's The End of The World As We Know It
