Judge's stellar Monday soul party is interrupted by the hilariously amateurish "Superfly Meets Shaft". Shut yo' mouth!

But it's followed by "Soul Makossa", and unlike JJ, Judge pronounces Manu Dibango's name correctly.

Gladys, girl: you too strong not to keep on keepin' on.

Lawd: the Isleys' "What it Comes Down To", their "That Lady" follow-up which sadly missed the pop Top 40.

OMFG/surprise of the afternnon: El Chicano, "Tell Her She's Lovely"

JJ slammin' 'n' jammin': Chi-Lites, "Power to the People" and J-5 "Get it Together (Or Leave it Alone)".

and lawdy it's Isaac Hayes, singing "You're My Joy" to Xenu.

Sly's "Life" is always a treat. "you might wake up and find yo' pecker's gone"? wha??

Ree-Ree's version of "The Weight" is another of her fantabulous covers -- Duane Allman on gee-tar.

There you were! standing there, listening to "Forever Came Today". At last! oooh! At last!

and -- what were the odds? -- JJ played Billy Stewart's "Fat Boy" and here it is again an hour later on 1340 The Boardwalk.

Am listening to Capital Gold for the first time in over a year. Dean Martin still there doing his evening all-request show. And except for the occasional unique-to-the-UK tunes ("Whiskey in the Jar" and the like) it's same-old, same-old. People requesting the likes of "We are the Champions", "Let's Stay Together", "Lola" etc etc. But hey -- all the latest Royal Wedding info!

ETA: OK this is a little better: Slade's "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" and Andrew Gold's forgotten "Never let Her Slip Away"

listening to that fine classic country station in Galax, VA (which is pronounced "GAY-lax", tee hee) and they're playing Randy Travis' "Forever & Ever Amen", easily one of the 3 or 4 best lyrics of the '80s in any genre.  Just a beautiful bit of songcraft. Wish I could get AL to play it, but I doubt it.

as long as old men sit and talk about the weather...
as long as old women sit and talk about old men...

BTW, the deejay's name is Buford Kegley  -- countriest name ever?

OMFG: Lorne Greene, "Ringo" !!

That Buford Kegley -- he always plays the good stuff  ;)

Seriously, they're a pretty decent mix of decades. As long as they don't assault me with Shania Twain I'm happy.

OMG -- Dolly's "Joshua", in which she falls in love with a smelly, creepy hermit. Low self-esteem, Ms Parton?

Ha! Roger Miller "England Swings" (lahk a pendulum do), another I've been trying to get AL to play. And followed by the freakin' LOUVIN BROS!! Lawd have mercy ah done died and gone to heaven.

"Southern Nights" -- just as good even when closed your eyes.

and Clint Black's "A Better Man" -- a better MTB hommage you'll never find.

Holy crap: David Allen Coe's "Willie & Waylon & Me" is NTM and quite hilarious -- and it borrows the melody of CSN's "Helplessly Hoping"!

"I'm the Only Hell Mah Mama Ever Raised" -- I am truly in awe of this station today.  (Well... except for the commercials for Harrison's Guns & Ammo, tho' they certainly fit right in with the Outlaw Country Hour!)

Wow, NTM from JJ, Brighter Side of Darkness' follow-up to the infamously dreadful "Love Jones" -- "I Owe You Love", sweeter and a tad less histrionic.

"Tricky Dick! Stop yo' Shit!" Lamont Dozier with another they-don't make-political-singles-like-this-anymore classic.
