This blog from a Seattle station has the clip of Vin Scelsa announcing Lennon's death on WNEW, and some subsequent clips from the following hours and days.

As a kid, I knew about John Lennon. I was 12. Heck, Double Fantasy was the first ever album I ever bought. But it wasn't until Lennon's murder that I became aware of the Beatles. To me, Lennon was a solo artist and Paul McCartney was part of Wings.
