9 Sept 2010: it's... California Songs
« on: September 08, 2010, 09:37:38 PM »
Yeah, some sorta birthday request she's doing. Could be great or dreadfully cliche-ridden (Fogheads are predictably asking for Mamas & Papas, Beach Boys, Scott McKenzie...zzzzzzzzzzzz).  I have a 2-1/2 hour meeting from 9:30-NOON so I'm gonna miss this one, can't say I'm overly upset.  Catch up with the replay.

Plus, there's a request for.... "Sausalito Summerlight" by Diesel! Score! ::) I actually sort of know the guy who requested it, so I didn't get sarcastic on FB.

To be fair, I do believe it's California Day.

So it is!  I shoulda requested "California Day", Starland Vocal Band's lovely, ill-fated follow-up to "Afternoon Delight"

Starting with a Beach Boys twin spin, the second half of which is new to me.  Nice bomp-a-dee-dah groove to this one.  "Salinas Way"?

She did--and I was all set to, until I saw you two had taken care of it. And AL commented that she didn't have to sound the "what, no LL?" alarm, so that bodes well, as she didn't call out any other songs specifically.
Let's get right to it.

I think it'd be ok if AL included a clip from The Grape Of Wrath movie -- maybe the part where Grandpa dies at the side of the road, his dreams of finally being able to sit in a tub of sweet grapes and squarsh them all over dashed.

I'm just sayin'.

BOS to Cheap Trick's cover of California Man. I was hoping AL'd pull out the original Move version, but this is just fine. I don't care if your legs start achin'...

BOS for Estimated Prophet, thought this is the only song I've heard so far.

Classic Tom Scott at the end of this one.

Roger that.

This is shaping up to be damn near an all-request set. Of course, when people call out 10 or 20 songs each, it's tough to pick out something that *wasn't* requested.
Let's get right to it.
