JJ just played a soul cover of "Spirit in the Sky" (female voice) that was quite delightful -- didn't catch the artist ID.

Best thing about a Tuesday-that-feels-like-Monday: JJ on KPOO. Joe Tex, "Skinny Legs & All".

and here's the Isleys with the orig "Nobody But Me", before the Human Beinz got hold of it.

a rarity: Radio de Sebb actually plays something (semi-)French -- Grace Jones, "La Vie En Rose".

NTM: Al Jarreau, "Distracted" -- which is how his hands make his audiences feel.

LAWD! Radio de Sebb plays the Undisputed Truth version of "Papa Was a Rolling Stone". Most impressive.

Another NTM nugget unearthed by Radio de Sebb: Ree-Ree covering "It's In His Kiss" -- no idea when this is from. Pre-Atlantic, perhaps?

and it's followed by (also NTM) George Gavarentz, (who?) "Nues Dans L'eau" (which translates as "Naked in the Water"!)

Holy Flaming Mutha!  JazzFM just played a long-out-of-print Janis Ian track from 1979 that was NTM -- "Fly Too High", in which Ms. Ian gets all jazz-funk on yo' ass... produced by Giorgio Moroder! I had no idea this even existed. Newly reissued on CD, apparently.

The normally soulful Radio de Sebb plays the incredibly white Paul Davis -- "Do Right", his ode to Jeebus, which actually got to #23 in 1980.

Radio de Sebb plays Mel Torme's swingin' version of "Happy Together"!

And the OMGWTS just keep on comin' -- Ahmad Jamal doing a jazzy instrumental version of Foster Sylvers' "Misdemeanor". Wow.

NTM: Scissor Sisters' infectious "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'", which apparently was a huge hit in every country except the US.

"And then she appeared in a bunch of mattress commercials": Barry Scott summarizes the artistic output of Joey Heatherton after "Gone."

Barry Scott has me hearing "Yes We Can Can" for my first time since the drunken giddiness of the election.  How quaint those first moments seemed - moments where progress actually felt achievable.

"C'mon, girl!"  I was all set to tweak Mike on his "Drum" comment when Barry Scott's Bobby Sherman entry turned out to instead be "Little Woman (La La La)."  Sherman was the male Cher in his careless vocal imprecision.

I beg your pardon?  Scott follows the aforementioned Sherman with a Kon Kan konfection.

Bless You, Barry: Kon Kan's "I Beg Your Pardon" is some kind of small masterpiece. Gotta request this for AL's next '89 set.
