'LNG/KPOO/KCDX etcetcetc for the week of 3/22/10

Oh my! 'LNG plays the orig Don Fardon version of "Indian Reservation".

and speaking of orig versions: Barbie Gaye (sounds like a drag name to me) did the first "My Boy Lollypop" (yes, spelled with a "Y") in 1956!

(and check the comments from people who've "never seen a 7" record before" -- the mind reels.)

Pet Clark gets all existential on yo' ass in the lovely, forgotten "Who Am I?"

my day is complete: Little Steven played Little Richard's ultra-fab version of "Brown Sugar" -- one of my fave covers evah.  You shoulda heard him screamin', just about midnight.

First version I ever heard was by a ska band called Bad Manners, whose frontman was a fat bald guy IIRC.

yes --  Buster Bloodvessel was his name.  They did a ska cover Todd's "Bang on the Drum" that was pretty popular on '80s alt-radio.

OMG -- the return of Greg Edwards!  according to a Facebook message I just got, he's going to be on London's JazzFM

http://www.jazzfm.com/listen/

this weekend for a one-time-only show (sounds like a tryout to gauge interest?). It airs 10am-1pm London time on Sunday, so it might be worth staying up late Sat nite to hear his dulcet tones for a bit.

There's something amusing about Frankie Valli screeching "I'll be a big man in town" in his squeakiest falsetto.

Offshore just played "Those Were the Days" -- def the original version by Ms. Hopkin, as opposed to that odd mix/remake that AL played a few weeks back.
