KPOO's player seems to be down today. So I'm doing SoulClassics247.com, and they're playing a lot of 4Tops.

very rare Steve Miller: the title track from 1972's Journey From Eden, which Wiki says has yet to be reissued on CD.

that's really NTY?

dude!  if you're going to buy just one ZZ Top record (amnd, really, who can stop at just one??)  it should be Tres Hombres.  make sure you get the original recording remaster version: http://www.amazon.com/Tres-Hombres-ZZ-Top/dp/B000CCD0HQ

...Before this orig recording reissue, the Tres Hombres CD that had on the market was remixed, with echo-y drumming and an "updated" sound that just wasn't right.

I have the KCDX stream buffered in my online player, so I'm hearing a song that prob aired two hours ago (?) which is a nice surprise:  I know it's Savoy Brown, but I can't place the title.

I've always liked them in small doses, songs I've heard on the radio, etc. And that song got no NYC airplay whatsoever. But I'll take your recommendation under advisement.

Meanwhile, the Dud of the Day: Grand Funk's cover of "Feelin Alright" which is not NTM but which I haven't heard in decades (and i wish it'd stayed that way).

But it's followed by an Iggles gem: "After the Thrill is Gone".

Some WSM classic country to cleanse the palate after Dave's snoozefest: Bobby Bare, "Marge is at the Lincoln Park Inn". Brilliant songwriting, like a country version of a Cheever short story.

CG update: hadn't really listened to them since Greg left; thought I'd check out this weeks retro-chart show but their player isn't working at the moment. However, listed among the "listen later" shows is something called "Saturday Night Party Classics", which I assume is the replacement for CGSS. Anxious to hear what that sounds like.

WLNG is also out-of-commision this afternoon (it's an epidemic!) so I'm KCDX-ing for the duration.

TC, if you like KCDX you'd also enjoy WMIR:  http://www.wmir1009.com/

They're an actual "pirate" station on Lawn Guyland that also streams. Some guy in a basement with a huge record collection. Not quite as all-encompassingly eclectic as 'CDX, but he does play some stuff you haven't heard in ages and he LOVES his Zappa.

yes, very nice. Thanks...  There's so much great stuff to listen to online these days.  My itunes player at work is stuffed with 3000+ songs, but more often than not I'm listening to some online stream.

Lawd! JJ plays Candi Staten Island's great '72 cover of "In the Ghetto". I need to find an all-encompassing Staton anthol, if one exists.

Followed by Jean Knight's soundalike "Mr Big Stuff" follow-up, "You Think You're Hot Stuff", and the Roberta & Donny take on "You've Got a Friend (Out on that Window Ledge)"
