Kurt's wife loses it, hurts people.  All she wants is life beyond Thunderdome.

BWAHAHAHAHA!

Wow, that turned out to be a really exciting game. Yay Steelers, winners 27-23.

Surprise of the night: Brenda Warner no longer has spiky lesbo hair. (But she still dresses like a trailer-park floozy.)

And the commercials were pretty underwhelming this year, IMHO.

The commercials were HORRID!  All of them except the Budweiser Clydesdales involved destruction and/or abuse!  Weird how consistent a theme that was.

But what a fantastic game!  Of course I'm delighted, but I must add that the Cards should hold their heads high; they played a fine game, especially Warner and Fitzgerald.

As for Kurt's wife - I've got $25 saying that was a wig.

I never watch the commercials. During breaks, I channel surf. Saw a little bit of I Love Lucy on Hallmark throughout the afternoon. Although the way I do it, I tend to miss some of the game.

The three he mentions as good (Hulu w/Alec Baldwin, Dylan/will.i.am for Pepsi & the Coca Cola bugs stealing the bottle) were absolutely the only ones I said to myself at the time were truly worthy of the distinction of being a Super Bowl ad.

And I likewise was sick & tired of all the slapstick violence - didn't do a thing for me.  Especially agree with PH on Jack getting hit by a bus.  I recall 20+ years ago when Jack-in-the-Box made a big deal of blowing up the clown (when it wasn't an actual human) and removing it from most of their marketing, and then a few years later pulling a 180 and making a big deal of "Jack is Back".  So I hope we really can assume he is dead now.

yeah, the Jack thing was really disturbing -- the cracks in his head and all. Their commercials with Jack are consistently some of my favorites, so it's doubly disappointing that they'd do something so dark.

One upon a time Super Bowl spots were smart, clever and even sophisticated. I think that, over time, ad agencies have concluded that the "typical" SB-watcher is none of those things, so better to be thuddingly obvious and frat-boy-ish.

BTW, there's a website with updates on Jack's "condition" and where you can post your homemade get-well videos...

At the point during halftime where the camera showed another female guitarist walking forwards with Patti, this was posted on the Football Outsiders messaage board:

"I think it was cool that Bruce gave Brenda Warner an acoustic guitar and brought her on stage."

Bwahahaha!  Actually, I think it's cool that Patti allows a hot blonde to be in the band -- given Bruce's rep, re: fidelity.

a less-than-stellar review for the Boss from the Times -- by John Caramanica (?? was Pareles unavailable?):

Jon Caramanica is the uber-freelancer.  I've seen his byline over the years far more than that of any other music journo.  He's generally more in his element talking about R&B and hip-hop, I find, though.

kinda weak to complain that Bruce *edited* his songs for the 12 minutes he was performing.  True, we all would have preferred the loo-o-o-ong versions, but it's a halftime show.  I mean, there's other stuff to complain abt.

I didn't see the whole thing -- didn't even watch the game, actually, and I only caught Bruce b/c I was walking past an establishment showing the show, so I stopped in -- but I heard a little of Born To Run and it seemed like there was some lip-synching going on there..was it just me?   at times Bruce didn't seem anywhere near the mic when we could hear the words very clearly, a little lacking in enthusiasm, and sung like he was NOT out of breath in the slightest.

But Bruce looked awesome, esp compared to "Not-So-Little Steven" (a punny name I read somewhere -- prob in an sfgate.com snarky headline).  I agree that their goofy delay of game/Boss time shtick was a little too much, too forced.

You read that here, from me.  (Now it can be told: I'm Aidin Vaiziri's illegitimate dad)
