But big ol' BOS to the aforementioned English Congregation, how I adore the declamatory "Softly Whispering I Love You."

wow, I just hear this one (on a Canadian stream that started at 9 AM locally) --  very nice!  The guy has got a great voice.

Ay, que fievre!

But it's pronounced CHA-ka-CHAS?  I'd always thought it was pronounced cha-KA-chas.

Casey was just guessing on the pronunciation, and he got it wrong.  I'm going with Dave Morey's pronunciation.

ponderous, man.. ponderous.

Man, Sonny Geraci is hanging on for dear life to some of those "Precious and Few" payoff notes.
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

"Everything I Own," here at #5, appears on this actual week's Adult Contemporary tally in a new version by Reno lounger Greg London.

I suppose Beverly Bremers is one of the reasons Mike's looking forward to this one.

I just heard this one, and I swear to god I thought it was Donny Osmond.

Bwhahaha! that never occurred to me, but I can totally understand you thinking that.  1972 was a bit too soon for a Lesley Gore hommage to be fully appreciated, but it was the best LG imitation since Patty Duke's "Don't Just Stand There" and would stand until Tracey Ullman's "They Don't Know" came along in '84.

And a VHM to Joe Tex's "I Gotcha," later covered by Sophie B. Hawkins.

We covered that covering last week when Dave played the Tex version and I pointed out that Sophie B. did it without adjusting the gender references ("the day you quit your boyfriend" -- is she singing to a bisexual woman? or a bisexual man?)

Crazy KFRC 1550AM has shifted its start of AT40 from 7AM to 8AM Sunday morning.  I wish AT40 would air on FM in Bay Area for better signal quality, as I like to tape the show.

indeed, if I'd known i wouldn't've set my alarm for 7. Hard to tell if this is a permanent switch or a techie error.

But what a treasure-trove this chart is. Highlights for me not previously mentioned:

The BeeGees' melodically lovely (if lyrically inconsequential) "My World"
Melanie's forgotten "Ring the Living Bell"
The Addrissi's "Got To Get it on Again"
JB, "Talkin' Loud"
Supes "Floy Joy"
BJ Thomas' gorgeous "R'n'R Lullabye"
Ms. King's "Sweet Seasons"

I am totally transported to a Sunday morning in '72 -- I actually remembered that Bobby Vinton anecdote; too bad the song is completely forgettable.WOS.

But Super Duper BOS to Cher's exquisite "The Way of Love"

Segue of the Week: from the wanton lust of "Jungle Fever" to an Osmonds twin-spin. "Come as you please" indeed!

Wacky Chart stat of the Week: EJ's "Tiny Dancer" is one of those luckless singles that peaked at #41!

I still love the Boy George version. Arguably David Gates' most heartfelt lyric, since it's about his late dad.

But Gawd! Robert John's "Lion Sleeps Tonite" is easily near the top of my list of most worthless covers evah.

I think this would make a good 10@10 set. Ten songs that peaked at #41.

A chart, ageless and evergreen...

2nd one in a month to have Babs at #1, but with lots of gems (Barry M in New England, Glenn C in the South) and more than a few WTF? moments ("Disco Lucy", anyone?).  And it all begins with Rose Royce's great "I wanna Get Next To You", which i always assumed Whitfield had sitting in a drawer since '71 or so -- it's got follow-up-to-"Just My Imagination" written all over it.
