"Lay Down Sally" was in the top ten for 11 weeks?? Sheesh.

Olivia tells John he better shape up; Niecy tells Johnny it's too little too late. Damn bitches ain't nevah satisfied...

...unless they named Roberta: she tells Donny the closer they get, the closer she wants to get. Oddly, the single is credited to Ms. Flack only, at least on the Billboard chart.

Why the hate for Eric Clapton?
this is not a universally held opinion.  Many board members diss Clapton and The Cars (not that they are the same!) while others dig 'em!

I don't think anyone here actually hates Crap, er, Clapton.  But many of us tend to think of the mid-to-late '70s (anything after 461 Ocean Blvd) as the beginning of a long slow slide into Adult-Contempo irrelevance. There's good stuff along the way ("The Core" and a few others -- hell I've even said nice things about "Change the World', much to everyone's amazement) but also a lot of "product".

Damn, I can't believe I missed the chance to make a Donny Hathaway window-ledge joke last nite!

I'm joking here. BOS?? WOS?? Sounds like some of you listen to 10@10 a bit too much since AT40 isn't a set but a chart.

Not that I'm a fan of Clapton. He's a "meh" to me. But I guess this music is a matter of taste. Most of you tend to lean toward early 70's music, which I mainly hate. I'll go for early 80's music while I hate a lot of the stuff after 1986.

We are total geeks. And proud of it!

Actually, I'd thought about using "BOC" (Best of Chart) but didin't want folks to confuse it with Blue Oyster Cult. ;)

Dude, don't be silly!   The distinction is simple:  BÖC or BOC!

This weekend (5/30-31) this station, which normally airs Casey70's, will play June 4, 1983!  SFGuy's bribe must have worked!

This is interesting to the "radio geek" in me, as it's the 2nd time they've done this. I wonder how many other stations are being given this option because they've decided early-'70s is "too old". (Originally the 2 packages, '70s and '80s, were separate and no station was supposed to air both.)  And I wonder how WHNN fits a 4-hour show into a 3-hour slot.  ???

ETA: turns out there's at least one station that airs both shows -- WWSE in Jamestown NY runs the '70s and '80s versions back-to-back on Sunday afternoons. Sadly, they don't stream.

According to WODS Boston's website, Casey's doing 1977 again this week, but  using a chart from mid-June. Well, at least we get to hear "Ariel".

looking at that chart, the first hour and a quarter of the show is worthwhile, and after that we hear mostly songs we heard 2 weeks ago.  Ah, but the gems in hour 1: The Carpenters' briefly-charted "All You Get From Love..."; ED&JFC's "Sad To Belong"; Alice Cooper's affecting "You & Me"; Waylon's Country #1, "Luckenbach, Texas"; Ms Reddy's fab cover of "You're My World"; Maynard Ferguson with the *other* hit version of the Rocky theme; the aforementioned "Ariel" (a VERY Noo Yawk song); and H&O's forgotten "Back Together Again".

Is this radio station a 70's station?? Doesn't seem to make sense to play Casey 80's. I get my AT40 fix from XM Radio that is broadcast on Directv but the 80's one is on at 4AM now so I have to tape it.

On these radio stations, do the stations edit the 4 hour versions into 3 hours?? XM is played uncut so when AT 40 moves to 4 hours in 1978, the whole show is played in about 3 hours and 15 minutes (no commercials).

The Seattle station is also airing that 6/77 chart:

Guess WHNN is just being a rebel. As mentioned, they must have some latitude to air 80's shows as well, to appeal to their target audience.  I'd assume the 80's shows run with minimal or no ads, so as to keep time frame under four hours, but heck, maybe it does run four hours.  Crazy times in Kasemland!

Hey kids!  here's a cool surprise:  WODS Boston lets you listen to AT40 in an on-demand podcast for several weeks after it airs!:

oooh!  you can also download the files and save them as MP3s:

1. right click on the center icon (the download arrows)
2. choose "Save linked file as..."
3. name it, save it

 even though it's low-quality sound (~ 53 kbps VBR) it's a big file (1 hour ~ 21 MB)

July 4th is on a Saturday this year. I hope some station broadcasts the first ever AT 40 from July 4, 1970. That would be one early 70's show I want to listen to.
