Judge is continuing his series of tributes to classic black radio stations -- later we're getting a bit of NYC's brilliant Frankie Crocker. Can't wait.

Got back from lunch just in time to hear the songs Mike just mentioned, as well as his tribute to Frankie Crocker on WBLS.

And now the Pointer Sisters are pitchin' yo' Wang Dang Doodle all night long. Gawd, haven't heard this since the mid-70s, safe to say. This sucka gets down--wonder who the guitar player is?

ETA: Per AMG, only two guitar players on that album: Willie Fulton, who was also a member of Tower of Power, and John Rewind (?!) who was in the Hoodoo Rhythm Devils, a Bay area band that never got much beyond the bar scene.
Let's get right to it.

Frankie was a GOD.  That short clip didn't really do him justice. He did amaizing things both behind the mic and behind the scenes.  And I can't remember the last time I heard this Pointers jam either -- it's sssmokin! Dave should give it a spin; instant BOS contender.

The O'Jays and their slavery epic, "Ship Ahoy" -- always wondered if this was meant as a rejoinder to Randy Newman's "Sail Away".

Greg plays Eugene Wilde, "Gotta get You Home Tonight", one of my fave late-'80s soulful seduction songs. Always thought it sounded like one Mr Wilde grabbed after Freddie Jackson turned it down.
