...as I walked out, felt my own needs, just beginning...

never really caught that line before.  Is this a song about heroin addiction after all?

Tales Of Brave Ulysses
by Eric Clapton and Martin Sharp

You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever,
But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun.

And the colors of the sea blind your eyes with trembling mermaids,
And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave Ulysses:
How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing,
For the sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white laced lips.

And you see a girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise,
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

Her name is Aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell,
And you know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands
With tales of brave Ulysses; how his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing.

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

BOS the Troggs original of "Love is All Around".

The original title of the film Love Actually was Love Actually IS All Around, a reference to the song, but they shortened it. Of course the writers had used a remake of the song in 4 Weddings & a Funeral, and there's a Xmas parody of it in ...Actually, so they decided they didn't want to overdo it.

OMG! BOS2 Kenny R & the First Edition. Yeah, yeah, oh yeah...

Makes me think of first short-term girlfriend, the Brazilian exchange student in our senior class.  This song was all over the radio at that time!

Mmmmm, Brazilian exchange students...

Not my first short-term girlfriend (I WISH!), but definitely the first time I was breathless, sleepless, appetite-less, etc.  In the end all I got was a farewell peck on the cheek.

But when she showed up at a pool party and borrowed a simple one-piece speedo from the hostess, three things happened.  1) All the boys just started slobbering uncontrollably.  2) All the girls got dressed again, not even wanting to be seen in their swimsuits next to her.  and 3) the hostess, a good friend of mine, told me she was going to burn the suit after Alice took it  off.

The PBS thing on the 60's last night was cool, but there was way too much Ed Meese and Pat Buchanan waxing negatively nostalgic about that time.
