Stream of Consciousness / Re: 10@10 - Discussion of KFOG's show in general

the idealist in me would like to see Dred pinch hit for her when she's out. Not gonna happen I realize. But I do think KFOG suffers when the reruns appear often - of course, given their audience, maybe they don't...

Based on the comments posted on her FB page, a lot of folks have no idea she's away or that it's a rerun. I recall there were people who didn't know Morey had retired during that 6-month stretch of DM "classics" either.

Including some who we'd *think* should know better!

I can't be the only one who's this irritated about the frequency of classics, right?

My assumption is that it has to do with some sort of personal matters going on in Annalisa's life, so while the "classics" aren't ideal, it's hard to be irritated about that. It can't be helped.

It appears this is actual paid vacay and that she's relaxing somewhere -- most of the time off last year when her mom was sick was unpaid leave. But we're 10 days into this particular streak of reruns so I hope she's back before the week ends.

I think we're in general agreement that we want AL to get her vacation and time off as needed. I just wish there was a better way to deal with it than running repeats.

KFOG's 10@10 / Re: 21 Jan 2016: it's... 1991

Seems to be an encore of:

Quote

3/19/14 - Wednesday!  It's 1991

1. Blur - No Other Way
2. Buddy Guy - Mustang Sally
3. Divinyls - I Touch Myself
4. Crowded House - It's Only Natural
5. Dire Straits - Calling Elvis
6. Tom Petty - King's Highway
7. Big Audio Dynamite II - Rush
8. John Lee Hooker and Robert Cray - Mr. Lucky
9. Lenny Kravitz - It Ain't Over Till It's Over
10.REM with KRS-1 - Radio Song

2014? Wasn't that when Renee was still running the show? Wasn't her on the intro though so maybe not.

AL's return date was 3/10/2014, so this is from Week 2 of AL 2.0

In Memoriam, Happy Birthday / Re: RIP Glenn Frey, 67

If this spate of dying musicians continues they are going to have to call a moratorium on memorial sets. I now understand why DM sat "we don't do death on 10@10." A rule he only deviated from twice that I can recall: for George Harrison and Maurice Gibb. ALSO has done many more,  but up until recently they weren't warranted but a couple times a year.

I think today's set worked as a nice compromise. Acknowledge the artist, but don't dwell on it. Particularly in the case of Frey, who, fine singer that he was, probably didn't really merit a full set.

That was me calling Webster to reminisce about seeing them in Cincinnati in '79 and requesting Seven Bridges Road.

I'm rather surprised to see that they did a solid 2 hours of nonstop Eagles/Frey, since they really don't play them outside of 10@10 (unlike Bowie, who still shows up in regular rotay). And I guess Bowie provided the precedent -- they did 4 hours of  him last Monday morning.  I have to assume we'll get a Frye/Eagles 10@10 tomorrow.

I'm wondering what they'll do - obviously AL can focus on the Frey-heavy Eagles tunes, but as far as his solo work goes, it mostly leaned AC/Pop (not that that's necessarily bad). I have to think "Smugglers Blues" will make an appearance.

Wow, this has been some week.  Don't have a link yet...

Damn. He was one of my favorite Age 14 artists ("Smugglers Blues", "The Heat Is On"). RIP

1/15/16
1. Good - Better Than Ezra
(I am Spartan, check me out)
2. That's Just What You Are - Aimee Mann
3. Say It Ain't So - Weezer
4. Hey Man, Nice Shot - Filter
5. The Man Who Sold The World - Nirvana
6. One Of Us - Joan Osborne
7. Hello Spaceboy - David Bowie
(lets dock)
8. Born Slippy - Underworld
9. Whiter Shade Of Pale - Annie Lennox
10. Live Forever - Oasis

Despite FFs at #1 (albeit one I like quite a lot) and #6 (OTOH a HFH IMO), this was one hell of a set. A good mix of snoozy & harder tunes, Filter with a song that isn’t Take a Picture, Annie Lennox with a cover that isn’t Train in Vain AND a song that’s not Little Bird, a Bowie cover and a perfect Bowie tune, into UNDERWORLD. (!!)

Concur (although it would be nice to hear something besides "Good" (Better Than Ezra does have quite the catalog, after all). I consider "One Of Us" to be a Toad.

Who else even joins the conversation?  Elton?

I'd probably add Eric Clapton and Elvis Costello as well, but I think Bowie would win the debate.

Now, 12+ hours later, I'm still kind of reeling from the news of his passing. This is probably the biggest celebrity death since Robin Williams, and for me the biggest musical loss since George Harrison.

I was just thinking that r/ music - Bowie is certainly the biggest name since Harrison to pass (although, one could argue for Whitney Houston).

Edit: Actually, now that I've had a second to think about it, Michael Jackson would have to qualify.

Stunned

I think that applies to all of us.

RIP.

Ditto - I thought the Captain's suggestion for a 10@10 set had to do with his birthday.

Renee said this morning that "Ordinary World" was Duran Duran's "biggest hit". Er... no, honey, It peaked at #3 and they had two #1s and a #2 before that.

Maybe she was referring to the R-n-R charts, where it did indeed spend two weeks at #1, as opposed to a single week each for "Reflex", "Wild Boys" and "A View To A Kill". But somehow I doubt that's what she meant.

3 INXS songs in 25 minutes...Need You Tonight, Never Tear Us Apart, and New Sensation.

And all from the same album...

If the fourth single had been "Nevil Inside"...
