China Crisis "King In A Catholic Style (Wake Up)"

ETA: When Renee clicks with a bustout, it really stands out!

I'm floored by the multiple bustouts today -- RedBox with a wonderful forgotten gem.

The Lords Of The New Church "Like A Virgin"

Has Madonna's original ever made it onto 10@10?

I think it made one appearance at some point. This version has been played before too but it's always welcome.

"Dead Man's party" works better on Halloween.  But it's not overly-LN so I'll give it a pass.

How will this set get graded? Should be interesting...

in 'snipe-land there was a lot of "I've never heard this song before" going on.  Despite some egregious LNs, I'd call it the best 1985 set in some time. Except for the JCM, this was a very WLIR set -- they played everything else here.

1. John Cougar Mellencamp - Rain on the Scarecrow
(News: Tip O'neill on the Contras)
2. Simple Minds - Sanctify Yourself
3. Belouis Some - Some People
4. Tears for Fears - Head Over Heels/Broken
5. The Cure - In Between Days
(Movie: To Live & Die in LA)
6. Wang Chung - To Live and Die in L.A.
7. China Crisis - King in a Catholic Style
8. Red Box - Lean On Me (Ah Li Ayo)
9. Lords of the New Church - Like A Virgin
10. Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party

I'd say that the Cure, TFF, and Oingo Boingo could be considered LN. For me, I've always enjoyed "Head Over Heels", and am indifferent to "In Between Days". I would agree that "Dead Man's Party" would qualify as an "overly obvious 10/31 LN".

3 and 6-9 were either bustouts or close to it. Overall, I'd give this set an A-.

No.

The list of Madonna songs that have appeared on 10@10 is rather short:

American Pie  [as a HFH]
Crazy For You
Erotica
Like A Prayer
Lucky Star
Material Girl
Open Your Heart
Papa Don't Preach
Santa Baby  [as a HFH]
Vogue
"Your favorite songs, played beautifully"

I do not consider myself a Madonna fan, but if I was assembling a personal "best of" collection
of her songs I could certainly come up with more than eight or ten that I liked.  As others have
mentioned, we've seen nothing from Ray of Light, and early hits like Holiday are also absent.
