Chris Whitley, "Big Sky Country"

zzzzzzzzzz

Amen to that. Whitley and Marc Cohn are pretty interchangeable. Lucky us, we get both today.  Tom Cochrane next?
Let's get right to it.

Extreme, "More Than Words"

Guilty pleasure on my part.

At least this isn't one we hear in the regular KFOG rotation much, if at all. DM used to bring this out on occasion, iirc. And since they're cribbing heavily from the Morey playbook, I can't say this is much of a surprise, but I'll still take it over Cohn/Whitley.

Tom Petty (sans Heartbreakers, I think), "Kings Highway"

Pretty generic TP, not one of my favorites, though I like him more than most folks on this board.

I guess I've heard high school kids play this on guitar too many times!

I'm a sucker for a pretty two part harmony with acoustic guitar sometimes.  The best example, imo, is "Guinnevere" by Crosby and Nash.  Extreme pales by comparison.

Calling Urth, I've no idea on this one.  The KFOG page is no help...  "Miss Angeline"?

Kind of like it, though...

ETA:  Matthew Sweet, "Evangeline"

You'll get no complaints about Petty from me, except the usual kvetch that some of his songs really don't need to be played much anymore. But I think his heart is in the right place; I don't get the idea he's too full of himself.

BOS Matthew Sweet Evangeline, simply for not being Girlfriend (although there are lots of other songs on the Girlfriend album that could do with a little exposure too).

Thanks, guys!

I'd've probably BOSed "Evangeline" too. The musical that Berkeley Rep staged a few years ago, based on the songs from that LP (and a few from 100% Fun) was quite, um, sweet.

#4: U2, Even Better Than The Real Thing.

Did Pepsi every pick this up for an ad campaign?

Nice.  That would be a cool campaign.

I want to say Coke did, but in fact it was Virgin Cola who wanted to use it:
