Oh look, it's most of today's set!

http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2011/05/10-musicians-who-served-in-the-military.html

that is hilarious. And sad.
Awww, don't be sad, Mike.  Does it really matter what the source is?

it does, to me. She probably saw that linked in somebody's FB feed last nite and said "score!"

She should acknowledge it if that's where she got it.

Did she really just compliment herself on digging deep?

And did she say "Maynard and James Keenan"? That would suggest extreme uncluedness, but maybe I misheard it.

awww... Tony leaves his heart.

Maybe not the first that comes to mind when you think of anti-war musicians, but he belongs on the list:

I did not know that. I feel like I should buy one of his CDs now.

rad hinted at it by making a request for Mystikal, one of the three unplayed artists from that list, for 2014, then I requested the other two, Ice-T and John Coltrane. The response was that she tried to get Ice-T on today, but she would have had to make too many bleep-outs. Production is hard work, yo. Anyway, she didn't seem to get that people were on to her source.

She could've played the NOW version of Mystikal, "Shake It Fast", which is somehow more funny than the unbleeped version.

Did you recognize the movie dialogue before this?
I think it was Tropic Thunder

My guess as well.  It probably appears on the IMDB quotation page for the film, if I was bothered
enough to look for it.

Although there were some nice moments, overall I thought today's set was too much of a mish-mash.
I think a more interesting idea would have been to go back to the origin of Veteran's Day:  Armistice
Day, and a show with ten songs about peace.  Of course we would have had the LN Give Peace A
Chance
, but there might also have been gems like Tom Paxton's Peace Will Come.  (Do I hear
the wheels turning in CapnJack's head already?)

TANC: I have a Paxton best-of sitting in front of me that I just got -- the Rhino collection from 1999. Sadly, it does not include "Peace Will Come". I was a big fan of his back in the early prog-FM days, when he was a staple -- "Whose Garden Was This?", "Talking Vietnam Pot Luck Blues", "Forest Lawn" and many others.

Paul Simon's "Armistice Day" would've been appropriate too.

yes, I'm almost certain it was that movie, Tropic Thunder, which is a really weird pick for Veterans Day.   ::)

One she missed that I would've liked:  Heatwave. The group was founded (co-founded?) by an American who served in Germany.  Rod Temperton was in that group, btw.
