https://soundcloud.com/capnjack-1/144-10-10-1974A brief overview of how this set was put together:
With RGMike and dischead reminiscing about instrumental openings on NYC radio,
it reminded me of NYC vet Alex Bennett's opening theme song during his Live 105
days (Professor Longhair's "Rum And Coke", thanks Alex for the ID!). That,
combined with Chicago's "Italian From New York" (a leftover from the "striclty
instrumental" set), and the start of a '74 set is created!
Renee's previous visit to '74 brought grumblings from RGMike about how deeper
cuts would improve the set, so deep cuts from
Fulfillingness' First Finale,
It's
Only Rock 'N Roll, and
Pretzel Logic were chosen (not to mention
Living And
Dying In 3/4 Time and
Al Green Explores Your Mind).
Geoff mentioned he would like to hear Earth Quake's "Friday On My Mind" cover.
I had Macca's "Sally G" in my back pocket ready for use in a '74 set. And I with
Renee's "year of the horse" set on Friday, it reminded me of George Harrison's
"Dark Horse", but I didn't want to use the album version (subtly known as "Dark
Hoarse" due to his vocals), so I dug out his solo performance from a BBC radio
interview. Add a few sound clips, and, voila!
Let me know what you think!
