2nd visit to 1965 (compare it to Renee's mystery set):

 12. We Five - Let's Get Together

A delightful set, of course, and this We Five version of "Get Together" was NTM.

As a collector of that song, I have it on their first/second CD twofer.  I like it (Get Together) but find it a little bouncy and cute, and not quite as emotional as other versions.  Nonetheless, it's one of the early versions.  Have you heard Judy Collins' version for example?

6th visit to 1973, inspired by Geoff's KSAN playlist comment:

 1. Montrose - Bad Motor Scooter

Inspired choice! Not that I'm a Sammy fan, mind you.

More fabulous stuff.  I don't think I'd ever heard that live Wings tune before. Ditto Eddie K's take on "Diamond Girl" -- an instant fave.  Dolly's "Higher" beats Rita Coolidge's version by a country mile.

And, strange as it sounds, there was quite a cadre of "Fanilows" (before they were called that) at my college radio station (and yes I was one) and so that Manilow medley got lots of airplay from us.

"Soily" was the Wings closer during their '76 tour, and it was the flipside to the "Maybe I'm Amazed" single.  The Eddie K. cover of Seals & Crofts was a happy accident on my part -- I originally had planned to use the single from his album, but stumbled upon this instead, and decided to link it with S&C's single from that year.  Dolly's "Higher" was nominated for a Grammy that year, iirc.  And the Manilow medley inclusion was inspired by his rejected Hoover jingle (a classic):

that's genius -- and in the '80s, in the UK, ElectroLux's slogan really *was* "Nothing sucks like an ElectroLux"

As promised...

...it's Friday the 13th...

... so here's a classic Dave Morey "Hits From Hell" set from Friday, May 13th, 2005.

I won't post the setlist, as I'll let the songs surprise you, and, after all, Dave does do the backsell with the artists/song titles.

Happy Friday the 13th!

stellar as always. I'm not a Yoko fanatic and neither do I hate her; but I've always loved "WOTI".  I had no idea Charlie Dore did "You Should Hear..." a year before Ms. Manchester. And JJ's Jumpin' Jive is always a treat.

 2. Robert Palmer - You Can Take It (Take My Heart)

holy crap -- I've often praised Mr Palmer for his great taste in R&B covers but I had no idea he'd done this Kool & the Gang tune. Nice.

idea for '89: his take on Jermaine Jackson's "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming"

And the Madonna song is one I'd forgotten about until it turned up recently as a recurrent on Kiss-FM, despite never having been a single. A small gem.

I originally planned to use "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" in my recent '88 set, but decided against it since it peaked on the charts in early '89.  I'll probably do a '89 as well as an '84 set soon using the "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" (as well as a MJ-themed subset in the '84 set).

One of my favorite Stones songs, and one of the best uses of a phased guitar.
