Gotta love a set that starts with Iggy and the Stooges and gradually devolves into Lawrence Welk. BOS: The Meters, but I was intrigued by the Lee Dorsey take on Sneakin' Sally Thru the Alley. That's a new one on me. I still think Robert Palmer's take on it (with the Meters backing him) was better, but this early view of it is pretty cool.

OK, have just gotten thru the last of the current soundcloud sets, this being the last of the bunch. I think this was my fave--thanks for including My Wife! Also enjoyed the PMFM clips--I need to go back and revisit that one. That Ricky Fataar clip came from nowhere though--how'd you find that? (Btw, I think he was the Beach Boy's drummer/percussionist.)

Which reminds me: I saw Neil Innes a few years back at Cobb's on Columbus, and Ricky Fataar showed up and joined him for a few songs. And Peter Finch was in the audience, to bring this back full circle.

The Ricky Fataar clip was part of a group of Beach Boys PSAs about registering to vote -- this one was left off the previous 1971 set, and I wanted to use it, but I didn't have anything that would make a nice segue, so I shoehorned it there.

RGMike -- did you ever listen to this one?  I threw in Don McLean's "Empty Chairs" after you made this comment:

Cap'n, it's official: you are Don McLean and I am Lori Lieberman/Roberta Flack.  You're killing me softly with my most-requested songs.

who'd'a thunk that Travis Wammack would be the commonality between George Jackson and Alan O'day?!?

The George Jackson credit that floored me was "The Only Way is Up" -- I knew the '80s dance version but had no idea it was written in the early '70s.

I'm behiind in listening to these, but I'll catch that '71 set today -- there are so many wonderful forgotten McLean songs on American Pie, and "Empty Chairs" is one; ditto "Winterwood".

FYI, that's not the original "Wildfire", but a re-recording.  I know that record like the back of my hand.

That Jackie Wilson/Chi-Lites thing was NTM and it's awesome. Wish it was on the Chi-Lites best-of I have at home.

Oops -- you're right.  I had planned to use the album version from Blue Sky - Night Thunder, but I accidentally used a re-recording from a compilation. DOH!

The Wildfire/Judy Mae thing was a nod to the Murphey and Castleman being in the Lewis & Clarke Expedition in the 60s. (They also wrote The Monkees' "What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round?")

That Jackie Wilson/Chi-Lites collaboration was Wilson's final charting single prior to his heart attack.

ETA: Okay, I fixed my mistake -- I replaced the re-recording with the original album track.  Thanks for catching my error, RGMike!
