The sound alone propelled the careers of Wendy Carlos, Dick Hyman, Keith Emerson, and countless others.  I suggest someone dig up "The Minotaur" by Dick Hyman off his "Moog" album in the late 60's.  There's archetypal for ya!

First Moog on a rock record: The Monkees, "Daily Nightly" (played by Micky Dolenz) and "Star Collector" (played by Paul Beaver) on the album Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd..

in memoriam, i played some moog (on an ensoniq) last night for the legal briefs.
